Amy Winehouse’s father Mitch Winehouse has once again slammed Asif Kapadia’s documentary Amy, after it won the award for Best Documentary Feature at last night’s Oscars (February 28th). Mitch has been vocal in the past about his disapproval of the film and has also said he’s in the process of making his own documentary to honour his daughter.

Amy WinehouseAmy took home the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.

On twitter Mitch told his 63.3k followers: 'Always proud of my baby. Amy will not get an oscar though. Just Asif Kapadia. That is what this is all about...Asif. He's fooled everybody. I am not changing my stance just because film won Oscar. It's a negative, spiteful and misleading portrayal of Amy. We will fix this.’

Accepting the Academy Award, Kapadia said: "This film is all about Amy. This is about showing the world who she really was, not a tabloid persona, the beautiful girl, the amazing soul, funny, intelligent, witty, someone special, someone who needed looking after."

Last week Mitch had criticised the film during an appearance on ‘This Morning’, when he was asked about his daughter’s Brit Award nomination for Best British Female Solo Artist.

“At least she’s being nominated for her music, for the soundtrack from the film, so that’s quite positive and it just shows you Amy’s still up for awards five years after her passing,” Mitch said.

Speaking about Kapadia’s film, Mitch added: “Frankly the movie is a sham. They left lots of stuff out... Anybody who was any part of Amy’s life in the last three or four years was not in the film. Reg, her boyfriend, he was instrumental in making sure that she stayed off drugs.”

"People don’t realise after seeing that film, they still think she died of a drugs overdose, what kind of a film is it that leaves people in doubt how she died? No mention of that she was clear of drugs for three years.”

The 65-year then revealed his plans to make a new documentary about his daughter, to be called Letter to Amy. “We have to make sure this isn’t the defining image of Amy,” Mitch said.

“We are moving towards, let’s not call it a film, although it will probably end up as a film, working on a project called Letter To Amy, [including] people who have been excluded from that film, [with] a guy called Phil Griffin who did the Rehab and Back To Black documentaries and we’re going to be working and doing our own thing.”
