Losing ones footing and falling flat is pretty much the one thing you can guarantee you have in common with the biggest celebrities. It's funny when your pal does it, and it's funny when a star does it. The only difference is, they're reminded of it for the rest of the year.

Amy SchumerAmy Schumer's fake fall might've have been more talked about than Madonna's

There's been some pretty epic literal slip-ups from the celebrity world in the most public places you can think of this year; on stage and on the red carpet. Here's just a handful of the best ones:

The Edge - One mis-step and U2 guitarist The Edge managed to make a mockery of his namesake by falling off the edge of the stage during a show in Vancouver. It actually looked like a pretty nasty fall but, it's ok, you're allowed to laugh because he managed to escape without any injuries. Somehow.

Harry Styles - This should actually count as two falls, technically, because he managed to hit a 'flat' note (sorry) TWICE on stage this year. The first time was after his fight with a microphone stand in San Diego in July, and the second time saw him promptly land on his back after tripping during a Toronto show. These aren't the only times he's managed to forgo his balance, and they won't be the last.

Madonna - Returning to the Brit Awards to perform for the first time in 20 years should be an unforgettable experience, but for Madonna it was memorable for not the best of reasons. During a choreographed routine that should have seen her dancers pull away her cape at the beginning of the song, she was pulled off of a platform on stage when it remained firmly tied around her neck. To her credit, she gracefully righted herself and carried on as if nothing had happened.

Amy Schumer - Even though it was blatantly deliberate, Amy Schumer's epic dive in front of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian on the red carpet at the Time 100 Gala was one of the funniest things we've seen all year. That's one way to turn the photographers' attention back on to yourself. Any indeed, it's Schumer getting all the attention now.

Jennifer Lawrence - 'The Hunger Games' star did her annual stumble on the red carpet at the 'Mockingjay Part 2' premiere in Madrid. It was actually a double fall, and not as graceful as her iconic Oscar-collection incident. Still, any time Jennifer Lawrence trips up in public, she always manages to make the most out of the funnys.
