So is this a gender thing... or just a management fail? We may never know.
The confidential files just keep on leaking from Sony and the latest batch has ignited some gender-related controversy. Basically, after some financial info was leaked, it was revealed that Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams (whose names you may recognize from, well, every headline this year,) were paid significantly less than their male co-stars for their work in the Oscar-winning film American Hustle.
It seems like for Lawrence [l] and Adams [r], the pay gap is still a reality.
Aah, pay gap, how we’ve missed you. Well, not really, because the pay gap never went anywhere, not even within the film industry apparently. The good folks over at The Daily Beast have unearthed a message from a message sent from Andrew Gumpert, President of Business Affairs and Administration for Columbia Pictures to Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment and Doug Belgrad, President of SPE Motion Picture Group on December 5, 2013, confirming that Adams and Lawrence received roughly 7% of the film’s talent budget each. Meanwhile, co-stars Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner and Christian Bale got... get ready for this... 9% each. I’m no math expert here, but I’m pretty sure that doesn’t even come out to the often cited statistic of 81 cents to a dollar.
Amy Adams' interest in 'confident' characters gave her reservations about Margaret Keane role in 'Big Eyes'.
Amy Adams has taken an unexpected turn in her acting career, as she appears in the role of modest and infamously defrauded painter Margaret Keane in Tim Burton's forthcoming biographical drama 'Big Eyes'.
Amy Adams meets the real Margaret Keane
It seems that Amy Adams has been displaying a string of hugely ambitious and massively extroverted characters in recent years: from dedicated cult leader Peggy Dodd in 'The Master' and drug-taking Beat Generationer Joan Vollmer in 'On The Road, to professional con-artist Sydney Prosser in 'American Hustle' and, of course, high-flying journalist Lois Lane in 'Man Of Steel'. Adams had been taking a serious interest in strong-willed female figures, and admits she was 'at a time where I wanted to play really confident characters'.

Margaret is an inspirational American painter desperate to sell her unique artwork depicting women and children with outsize eyes. She takes to the glamorous North Beach in San Francisco in a bid to try and make some money selling on the street and it's there she meets the charming Walter Keane, who takes a strong interest in her talent. The pair marry and have a child named Susan, but things take a dramatic turn when Walter starts selling the paintings under his own name, claiming that art by women doesn't sell as well. While revelling in their luxury, Margaret starts to feel uneasy - despite her apparent dreams of success coming true. She decides enough is enough and takes Walter to court, insisting that she is the true creator of every single Big Eye painting. He's prepared to fight back, but just how far is she willing to go to prove the truth?

Is this real? The Janis Joplin biopic has been in the works for years and might finally come to a screen near you in 2016.
It’s been a long time coming (so long, in fact, that the whole thing became a running joke on the late 30 Rock), but the Janis Joplin biopic starring Amy Adams is finally about to become a real thing. Get It While You Can is set to film in the second half of 2015 in Los Angeles and San Fran.
Amy Adams to play Janis Joplin? Well, it's not Jenna Maroney, but good enough.
Now, biopics can be really hit-and-miss as we’ve seen in the past year, but something that works in this one’s favour is the directing choice – Get It While You Can could be helmed by Dallas Buyers Club director Jean-Marc Vallée. Vallee is currently in talks to direct the flick, but it’s been a long winding road getting to this point. Back in 2013, Lee Daniels was slated to direct the flick. Over the years, has had Fernando Meirelles and Catherine Hardwicke attached as directors, Renee Zellweger as star and Temple Hill as producers.
Are Scoot McNairy socks a green screen for The Flash? Or just a weird fashion statement?
With Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman all making solid appearances in 2016's 'Batman v Superman' movie, we can't help but wonder who else will be joining the Justice League. Right now, our bets are on Scoot McNairy as The Flash.
Scoot McNairy to play The Flash?
The casting announcements for Zack Snyder's 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' have been both thoroughly exciting and extremely surprising. Of course, we knew Henry Cavill would return as the Man of Steel, we spent hours pondering who could play Wonder Woman before Gal Gadot was chosen and we were pleased on the announcement of Ben Affleck taking over Christian Bale as the Dark Knight. Rumours are still circulating that Jason Momoa might be joining the team as Aquaman, but the thing we're most excited for at the moment are recent whispers of Scoot McNairy taking on The Flash.

Amy Adams swapped her first class seat with a US soldier in coach whilst flying from Detroit to Los Angeles on Friday (27th June).
American Hustle actress Amy Adams reportedly arranged for her first class plane seat to be exchanged with that of a US soldier. The unnamed soldier was in a standard coach seat but Adams was happy to swap in order to raise awareness for the US troops.

ESPN Numbers Never Lie presenter Jemele Hill tweeted the news of Adams' altruistic deed. She wrote "Just saw actress Amy Adams do something incredibly classy. She gave her 1st class seat to an American soldier. I'm an even bigger fan now." Hill later explained, in response to her followers' queries, the soldier was seemingly unaware the actress had swapped their seats.
Amy Adams is a good person, but you knew that already.
Amy Adams, the Oscar nominated actress and star of The Master, American Hustle and Catch Me If You Can, surprised an American soldier by giving up her first class airline ticket. The actress, brought up in a military family, was boarding a flight from Detroit to Los Angeles when she spotted the man wearing a US army uniform and asked the flight attendant if they could swap seats.

The soldier was upgraded to first class and Adams was moved to economy, according to the television host Jemele Hill, who was on the plane and tweeted, "Just saw actress Amy Adams do something incredibly classy. She gave her 1st class seat to an American soldier".

The actor has a minor part in Batman Vs. Superman, to be expanded later in the series.
The Batman vs. Superman movie casting may have had comic book fans on the brink of desperation up until now, but it looks like Zack Snyder and Co. may have gotten one thing right. Meet your new Cyborg – Ray Fisher. Now, Fisher is primarily a stage actor, although that has been known to work for past superhero movies and he has been cast as Victor Stone. That’s all we know at this point, according to Variety. Early reports claimed that Fisher was being considered for a part in Snyder's Star Wars Episode VII, but it looks like he was transferred to another big-budget Snyder production.
Fisher's background is mostly theatrical.
The character has a minor role in Batman vs. Superman, but this casting and Fisher’s appearance are intended to pave the way for future appearances by the superhero within the Justice League franchise that Warner Bros. is setting up for. A little background on Cyborg: the character made his first appearance in 1980's "DC Comics Presents" #26. In the "New 52" continuity, he's a high school athlete who, after getting caught in a S.T.A.R. Labs explosion, is given powerful bionic abilities that lead to him becoming a founding member of the Justice League.

Lawrence lip syncs to Santana's 'Evil Ways' in a previously unseen clip.
Jennifer Lawrence has delighted owners of the recently released American Hustle DVD by appearing in one of the disc's deleted scenes lip-synching to Santana whilst wearing rubber gloves and cleaning. Those who have seen the film will remember a similar, shorter scene where Jennifer mimes and dances to Wings' 'Live and Let Die' in front of her bemused son but the extended 'Evil Ways' clip goes all the way.
Jennifer Lawrence Shows Off Her Dancing Skills In The Delete 'American Hustle' Scene.
With her big Hustle hairdo and heavy make-up, Lawrence, AKA '70s housewife Rosalyn Rosenfeld, is the star of her own front room as she shakes, shimmies and bops as she does the housework. For Lawrence's many fans (and there are indeed, many) the deleted scene will be a welcome Easter egg and a reminder of why they love the fun and quirky actress so much.
Despite high hopes, 'American Hustle' was the big loser at the Oscars 2014.
American Hustle may have a 93% fresh rating on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, but it failed to woo the Academy at this year’s awards show. In fact, despite having received 10 nominations in various categories at last night’s Academy Awards, American Hustle didn’t take home a single Oscar. How was it that a movie so well received by viewers and critics didn’t take home an award for any of the categories it was nominated for?
Amy Adams failed to win an Academy Award for her role in American Hustle
The answer's simple really. The competition at this year’s Oscars was brutal. The Best Picture winner 12 Years A Slave has been hailed as one of the most powerful movies of all time, so much so that it has been added to the American high school curriculum by the National School Boards Association. This elevates it from being just another movie with a weighty theme into something entirely more important. 12 Years A Slave has made history and in the process been recognised as being so significant that it can be used as an educational tool. How do you like that for competition?

With only a hint of a futuristic setting, Spike Jonze takes a remarkably honest look at human emotions as a man and his computer's intelligent operating system fall madly in love with each other. Utterly grounded in believable characters and situations, this is a boldly inventive exploration of how we connect with each other. It's also one of the most involving, witty and evocative movies of the year.
It's set just a few years into the future, when we've essentially done away with keyboards and talk to our phones and computers. So Theodore (Phoenix) works in a company that writes letters for people who want a more tactile way of communicating. While trying not to let his recent divorce from Caroline (Mara) influence his work, his friends (Adams and Letscher) set him up on a blind date with a sexy woman (Wilde). But he's not quite ready to move on until he begins opening up to his new interactive operative system, which calls herself Samantha (voiced by Johansson). And she has such an open-hearted personality that Theodore can't help but fall for her.
The film has a breezy, fable-like tone that allows heavy themes to emerge without weighing us down. Indeed, the central idea is that relationships are difficult because we can't help but evolve individually, which sometimes means drifting apart. Obviously, this has huge ramifications when your partner is a limitless computer mind that will never stop expanding. But Theodore doesn't want to think about this; he is frightened by the idea that Samantha is changing. Yes, despite the vaguely surreal premise, the film is packed with things we readily identify with.

The designer label pointed out how fashionable the actress looked...as she headed to the wake.
Fashion house Valentino has been compelled to apologise after a photo of Amy Adams attending the wake of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was used promotionally in a press release to publicise that Adams was carrying a bag from their current season. Adams was one of the many who was hit hard by the Capote star's death as the pair had co-starred in numerous films and were firm friends.
Amy Adams Was "Appalled" By Valentino's Promotional Use Of Her Photo.
Amy Adams broke down into a flood of tears when asked about her experiences of working with the late Philip Semyour Hoffman, during her Inside The Actors Studio interview.
Amy Adams is one of the first people in the movie business to publicly discuss the recent passing of Academy-Award winner Philip Seymour Hoffman.
But she didn't find it easy.
While appearing on Inside The Actors Studio this past Wednesday (Feb 5th), the 39 year-old broke down into a stream of tears when the conversation turned to Hoffman's death.
'American Hustle' costume designer, Michael Wilkinson, was forced to make a number of dresses for Jennifer Lawrence as she stained her white dress with Doritos!
For most of us, white dresses tend to be avoided due to the catastrophic stains which inevitably and quite magically appear all over the material and which are, quite inexplicably, impossible to scrub out. Fortunately, we're not the only ones and even the terribly glamorous and confident Jennifer Lawrence is not immune from destroying her wardrobe, even on a film set.
The cast of American Hustle, Jennifer Lawrence's pristine white dress can be seen on the far right.
Lawrence's white dress in American Hustle was the victim of Doritos stains and on more than one occasion. As a result, the film's costume designer Michael Wilkinson was forced to make a number of dresses for the clumsy star. Wilkinson, who is nominated for an Oscar for his work on American Hustle, was recently interviewed by Vanity Fair and he joked about Lawrence's junk food habits. He said "Jennifer Lawrence is a very, let's say, raw and intuitive young lady, and she's not against eating Doritos and snack food in her costume. So we were glad that we had a couple [of backups]."

The Internet's editing genius has a go at 'Her'.
Remember when we told you about the Fight Club minus Tyler Durden scene lovingly brought to the world by editor/magician Richard Trammell? Well he’s at again, this time with Spike Jonez’s Oscar-nominated ‘Her’, although this time the sultry tones of Scarlett Johansson are replaced with the rather stark cadence of Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
Joaquin Phoenix falls in love with his OS in 'Her'
The trailer sees Theodor – played by Phoenix – fall in love with his new and scarily innovate OS Samantha, but Samantha is now an incredibly offensive, sandy-haired man in his mid-40s.
The 79 year-old 'Philomena' actress heads a talented field of old Oscar-nominated actors.
Dame Judi Dench has been nominated in the Best Actress category ahead of this year's Academy Awards for her lead role in the British film Philomena, which has also been nominated for Best Film. The nomination marks Dench's seventh Oscar nomination, having won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for 1998's Shakespeare In Love.
Judi Dench Has Been Nominated For Her Seventh Oscar.

The Golden Globes went out to some pretty deserving nominees, but what about the ones we didn't expect to win?
The Golden Globe Awards were handed out last night and whilst all the awards went out to truly deserving parties after a ground-breaking year in film and television, there were plenty of notable surprise winners and even more fantastic performances snubbed. Read about all the winners here.
Cate Blanchett's Best Actress Award For A Drama Film Seemed To Come Out Of The Blue (Jasmine).
Whilst few were surprised that 12 Years A Slave picked up the evening's crowning award, the Best Motion Picture for Drama, the movie apparently hadn't originally appealed to the Hollywood Foreign Press, despite global critical acclaim. Nevertheless, Steve McQueen's slavery drama took home the award, seeing of some admittedly strong competition from Nebraska, Philomena, Rush and Gravity.

We stick our necks out and tell you who's walking home with what
Award season has been grumbling away like Smaug inside Erebor for the last few months; but dragon is slowly awakening. Since the Gotham awards last year, the perennial question of ‘who’ll win what?’ has echoed around the Internet, and the recently announced BAFTA nominations promise to shed some light on the eventual academy recipients.
Gravity is leading the way with 11 Bafta nominations
With that in mind, and with some tightly contested categories to work through, it’s time to start predicting who’ll take home the golden masks, before we start predicting who’ll take home the golden statuettes, you see.
See below for a full list of nominations
The Bafta nominations didn’t really throw up any surprises, with many of the year’s top actors, directors and films being recognised. The constant metronome of: ‘Gravity,’ ’12 Years a Slave’ and ‘American Hustle’ still chimes away; the Oscar favourites are set to do battle.
Gravity is leading the way with 11 Bafta nominations
So 'Gravity' leads the way with 11 nominations; it’ll go up against '12 Years a Slave' in the Best Film Category as well as 'American Hustle', 'Captain Phillips' and 'Philomena', a film the Alfonso Cuaron space thriller must also beat to win Outstanding British Film gong. 'Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom', 'Rush', 'Saving Mr. Banks' and 'The Selfish Giant' make up that category.
'On a script that was so unique and full of these big ideas and this wonderful heart and accessible emotion... why wouldn't you do this movie?' Joaquin says on being asked what drew him into the script. The two actors' characters are good friends in the movie who share a similar need for emotional comfort. 'We have in common that we're both at an emotional crossroads and looking to do things differently', Amy explains. 'The great thing about Spike is that nothing's ever done in a real obvious way; it's through conversation and through details and you learn through the brilliant dialogue that he writes where these characters are.'
Theodore Twombley is a reserved man going through the hardest time of his life with his divorce from his childhood sweetheart Catherine. One day, he decides to buy a new kind of OS that has an artificial intelligence that can evolve into having almost human like feelings. He chooses a female identity for his OS and thus meets the disembodied Samantha who offers him company with her witty and insightful remarks and frequent flattery. When he finds out his friend Amy has also made a friend out of her estranged husband's OS, he begins to feel that his feelings towards Samantha may not be so strange at all and allows himself to fall deeply in love with her. However, as much as they have managed to bond, he starts to worry about the consequences of limitations of their relationship and begins to wonder just how genuine their relationship really is.

Despite the time-frame of movie, female characters are strong and active instead of passive.
And while their roles in American Hustle can’t be described as dominant, neither are they submissive and meek. Lawrence plays a housewife – an odd sentence to follow up an opening paragraph that hints at forward thinking and equality – but that she does.
American Hustle is all about Jennifer Lawrence.
Jennifer Lawrence is winning all the plaudits for her latest movie, David O'Russell's comedy-drama American Hustle. The film itself is a star-studded 1970s set epic and the critics universally agree that it will be amongst those vying for the major awards in early 2014.

The actor could be set to appear in a superhero action movie.
Joaquin Phoenix could be the next actor to be announced for the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman movie, scheduled for 2015. The movie will see Henry Cavill's Superman and Ben Affleck's Batman go head-to-head for the first time on film. If the rumour is confirmed, Phoenix will join Cavill and Affleck as well as Amy Adams' Lois Lane and Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman.
Could Joaquin Phoenix Play Lex Luthor?
Fans of the 39 year-old Walk The Line actor won't be used to seeing Phoenix star in such big-name, huge budget action blockbusters which means the Batman Vs. Superman movie will be an intriguing change of role for the reclusive star. According to sources speaking to Variety, Phoenix is being linked to the movie as the film's antagonist, probably Lex Luthor.

Superstar cast, brilliant director - it's statuettes all round for sure, right?
A late entry to the 2013 awards race, David O. Russell's American Hustle is emerging as a force to reckon with. The film reunites Russell with Christian Bale and Jennifer Lawrence, who both won Oscars working with him in the past.
