Craig David Wants To Write A "Garage Song" For Cheryl Fernandez-Versini

In one of the more unlikely possible musical pairings of recent years, British R&B singer Craig David has revealed his desire to work with Cheryl Fernandez-Versini on a new “garage song”.

The pair struck up a friendship during ‘The X Factor’ last year, when he worked alongside her training up her act Reggie N Bollie, who finished as runners-up in the 2015 series. Furthermore, recent rumours have suggested that the two have become romantically involved in the wake of Cheryl’s recent split from estranged husband Jean-Bernard.

David, a big name in pop music in the early noughties, was asked about their relationship at Wednesday night’s Brit Awards, but it only seems as if their connection is professional, saying that he’d “love to write a song for Cheryl” but admitting that he’s “just trying to enjoy my performances right now.”

“I know as an artist she can sing anything, so if I could write a garage song with her, I know we’d smash it out of the park,” he told The Mirror on the red carpet at London’s O2 Arena.

The 34 year old became a massive chart star in 1999 singing on Artful Dodger’s smash hit ‘Re-Rewind’, with his solo album Born To Do It yielding four massive hit singles. While his fortunes faded soon afterwards, last year he returned to the charts after a long absence with the single ‘When the Bassline Drops’.

“I mean, when I walked down the red carpet this evening, there were 15-year-olds screaming my name like it was 1999 again! It’s so overwhelming,” he said about his return to fame after such a long time away from the spotlight.

“My manager and I have agreed that this time around, we are going to enjoy every single part of this,” he reflected. “We are not going to take it so seriously. We won’t worry about getting to number one or if we’ve been played on the radio. No. This time, I just want to enjoy myself and see people come to my shows.”
