Laura Gurrero is a pretty girl who aspires to be a beauty queen. Some days she even stands in front of the mirror and practises her speech. One day, she decides to make this dream a reality, so she applies for the Miss Baja California alongside her best friend Susu.

Their application is successful and upon entering the pageant, the two girls go clubbing. Their night has barely started when armed men enter the club and start shooting the revellers. Laura manages to escape the club but, upon going back inside to look for Susu, she is kidnapped by the shooters.

Laura is driven to an unknown location, where she meets Lino, a drug lord. Because of her natural beauty, he spares her life, instead making Laura the gang's drug runner. Laura continues in the pageant as normal but the brutal world she has been forced to live in threatens to kill her at any moment.
