American Idol crowned a new winner on the finale of its 13th season. Caleb Johnson won the competition and was able to perform with Kiss. There was certainly an impressive array of famous names and faces who turned up to appear in or watch the show and they posed for picture on the red carpet beforehand.

As USA Today reports, this is the third time Johnson auditioned for American Idol but the first time he got past the audition rounds. Yet third time's a charm and Johnson has proven critics wrong by winning the 13th season of American Idol.
Jennifer Lopez performed on stage with 'First Love'.
The show kicked off with Johnson and Irene sitting together before stepping on to the stage to perform an impressive mash-up of Queen's 'We Will Rock You,' No Doubt's 'Just a Girl,' and Tina Turner and Bryan Adams' 'It's Only Love.' The pair were able to perform with some of their idols on Wednesday night's show with Johnson performing alongside Kiss in 'Love Gun' and 'Shout It Out Loud'. Irene began a performance of Paramore's Decode on piano but was soon joined by the band itself!
Kiss joined Caleb on stage for a special collaboration.
Two other finalists returned to perform chart toppers with Sam Woolf performing Phillip Phillips' 'Home' and Jessica Meuse performed 'That Girl' and 'Wrecking Ball'. Yet it was not the finalists' performances which received the most cheers from the audience but the array of guests the show had wangled to appear. Collaborating with the finalists were Phillip Phillips, John Legend, Kiss, Jennifer Nettles and Demi Lovato.
Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban judge the competition. Lopez took to the stage to perform 'First Love' whilst all the judges and mentor, Randy Jackson, performance a mash-up of Cyndi Lauper's 'True Colours' and Fleetwood Mac's 'Go Your Own Way'.

The photo call before the show certainly reflected the calibre of performer American Idol had acquired to perform on the show. The show's contestants were joined by a host of famous names and faces including the judges and mentors. Kiss appeared in full make-up holding pictures of both finalists as they posed for photographs. Whilst contestants from the previous seasons of American Idol also attended to show their support including Blake Lewis and Jessica Sanchez. Even actress and host Jane Lynch made an appearance for the show and posed on the red carpet.
