Alex Band, the frontman of the soft rock group The Calling, was apparently abducted and robbed over the weekend, as the singer has told various press outlets since the alleged incident. FOX 2 in Detroit were the first to report that the singer was the victim of a kidnapping in Lapeer, Michigan, during which time he was allegedly beaten, robbed and abandoned on some nearby train tracks about a day later by two unknown men.

Band told Fox that as he was leaving his hotel on Sunday (18 August) night to visit a near-by mini-market, having performed with the band earlier that day at the Lapeer Days Festival. A statement from the band also reveals that the singer was grabbed by one of the two men upon leaving his room and was hit over the back of the head by a police baton. He was continually beaten and had a gun pointed at him throughout the incident, during which time the kidnappers demanded some of Band’s 'Hollywood money.' He then told the assailants that he was about to be a father, after which he was apparently told "we don’t kill fathers" by one of the abductors. They then continued to beat him a little longer before abandoning him at a nearby railroad track in Lapeer.

Band is said to be recovering slowly from his attack, and sustained a number of injuries from his beatings, including a fractured lower spine, 15 stitches on his lower chin, three broken teeth and substantial bruising around his body. TMZ, who first reported the incident, also described his condition as "badly beaten."

In his own statement following the incident, Band said; "I never thought my unborn child would be my savior. I am grateful to be alive and I know that I am destined for bringing my music back to my fans," before going on to address the rumours that he had simply made-up the whole incident, when really his cuts and bruises relate to a "drug-related situation."

Band continued, "I take my rehabilitation very seriously I was near death due to this unbelievable situation and the rumors are categorically false and not a hoax as reported."

Police are still investigating the alleged incident and are asking local residents to report anything suspicious they may have seen over the weekend that might possibly relate to the crime.
