Introduction:
Alesha Dixon (born October 7, 1978) is an English singer, songwriter, television personality, and author. She first gained prominence as a member of the girl group Mis-Teeq, known for hits like "Scandalous" and "All I Want." Following the group’s breakup, Alesha pursued a solo music career and became a household name as a television presenter and judge on shows like "Strictly Come Dancing" and "Britain's Got Talent."
Alesha attended Monks Walk School, where she excelled academically and athletically. Initially, she planned to become a PE teacher and earned a place at Loughborough University. However, her career path changed when a record producer discovered her on a train and encouraged her to pursue music. In 1999, she joined the West London dance academy ‘Dance Attic,’ where she met Sabrina Washington. Alongside Su-Elise Nash and Zena McNally, the three formed the R&B and garage group Mis-Teeq.
Following Mis-Teeq's disbandment in 2005 due to the closure of Telstar Records, Alesha signed a solo deal with Polydor Records. Her debut solo album, Fired Up, included singles like "Lipstick" and "Knockdown" but faced limited commercial success. In 2007, she parted ways with Polydor but retained the rights to her music.
In 2008, Alesha released her breakthrough solo album, The Alesha Show, under Asylum Records. The album included hits such as "The Boy Does Nothing" and "Breathe Slow," with the latter earning her a BRIT Award nomination. Her subsequent albums, The Entertainer (2010) and Do It for Love (2015), showcased her versatility as an artist.
In addition to judging, Alesha has hosted numerous TV shows, including The Greatest Dancer (2019-2020) and Dance Dance Dance. She has also appeared as a guest presenter on The One Show and contributed to various charity events, including Comic Relief and Children in Need.
Alesha is a passionate advocate for women’s rights and diversity, often speaking openly about her experiences in the music industry. In 2010, she authored Alesha Dixon: Her Story, and in 2019, she released her debut children’s book, Lightning Girl, which was well-received for its empowering themes.
In 2023, she announced plans for a new music project, signaling her continued passion for creativity and artistry. Alesha remains a prominent figure in British entertainment, celebrated for her talent, authenticity, and resilience.
