Adele has spoken out against the pressure put on new mothers to breastfeed, during a gig at London’s O2 Arena. Her comments come after celebrity chef Jamie Oliver spoke about his plans for a new campaign to get more mothers to breastfeed, but Adele says those putting pressure on mothers can ‘go f***’ themselves.

According to The Sun, during her show in London Adele was asked by someone in the audience about “breastfeeding mummies”. “Do you know what? The pressure on us is f****** ridiculous and all those people who put pressure on us can go f*** yourselves. Right,” Adele said.

“It’s hard, some of us can’t do it. Some of my mates got post-natal depression from the way those midwives were talking. Idiots. Breastfeed if you can, but don’t worry, [formula brand] Aptamil’s just as good.”

“I mean, I loved it, all I wanted to do was breastfeed and then I couldn’t and then I felt like, ‘If I was in the jungle now back in the day, my kid would be dead because my milk’s gone. It’s not funny that’s how some of us think,” the singer added.

Speaking on LBC radio earlier this month, chef Jamie said: We have the worst breastfeeding in the world. If you breastfeed for more than six months, women are 50% less likely to get breast cancer. When do you ever hear that? Never. It’s easy, it’s more convenient, it’s more nutritious, it’s better, it’s free.”
