The family comedy, which features the voices of Adam Sandler and Selena Gomez, held firm on the top spot with $3.7 million (£2.3 million), while Matt Damon's space adventure The Martian climbed back up to second place with $2.7 million (£1.7 million) following its dramatic drop from one to four the previous weekend (16-18Oct15).

Paranormal Activity: Ghost Dimension 3D, the sixth film in the horror franchise, debuted at three with takings of $2.4 million (£1.5 million), while women's rights drama Suffragette, starring Meryl Streep and Carey Mulligan, dropped to four with $2.1 million (£1.3 million).

Vin Diesel's latest offering The Last Witch Hunter entered the chart at five with $1.9 million (£1.2 million).
