Adam Sandler has signed a blockbuster deal with Netflix to star in four original films shown exclusively on the Internet streaming service.

The Waterboy star is currently ranked as the most-watched movie star on the website, and Netflix bosses are capitalising on his appeal by signing him up for a lucrative four-film deal.

In a statement, Sandler jokes, "When these fine people came to me with an offer to make four movies for them, I immediately said yes for one reason and one reason only... Netflix rhymes with wet chicks. Let the streaming begin!"

Netflix's chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, adds, "People love Adam's films on Netflix and often watch them again and again. His appeal spans across viewers of all ages - everybody has a favourite movie, everyone has a favourite line - not just in the U.S. but all over the world."

The deal comes after Netflix bosses announced they had signed a deal with the Weinstein Co. to make their first feature length film - a sequel to 2000 blockbuster, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
