Adam Lambert's father urged the American Idol star to publicly apologise for his provocative performance at the American Music Awards last month (Nov09) after the media slammed his saucy on-stage antics.
The openly gay star stunned TV viewers with his finale at the AMAs on 22 November (09) by groping his dancers onstage and kissing a male keyboard player - and his shocking show led to a promotional appearance on a breakfast TV programme getting the axe.
He also became the subject of news and magazine shows and filled blogs and newspaper column inches.
Nine days after the headline-grabbing AMAs performance, Lambert sat down with sympathetic lesbian chat show host Ellen DeGeneres to review the past week as part of an appearance on her U.S. daytime show.
He accepted he "got caught up in the moment and maybe went a little too far," and revealed members of his own family were shocked by just how far he went: "My dad was like, 'I think you should apologise, Adam. I don't know. Maybe you should do that.'
"I was like, 'Well dad, I don't feel like I did anything wrong; it just maybe wasn't the right judgment call.'"
Even though he's not apologising for his racy stage show, Lambert told DeGeneres he understands why TV bosses at ABC axed his appearance on U.S. TV show Good Morning America.
He said, "I don't blame them. I got carried away."
