Adam Driver will become the new Stars Wars villain, but can the 30 year-old compete with the sci-fi franchise's iconic villainous character Darth Vader?
It looks like 'Girls' actor Adam Driver is about to get his very own lightsaber. The 30 year-old is reportedly extremely close to signing a deal to play the villain in J.J. Abrams hugely anticipated 'Star Wars: Episode 7'.
Adam Driver will play the villain in 'Star Wars 7'
As expected, no further information is known, but his character will shadow the sci-fi franchise's most notable villain, Darth Vader, Variety reports.
Driver is the first cast member to be announced for the movie, and it is worth noting that he beat out the likes of Michael Fasbender and Joel Kinnaman, who were also allegedly tested, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Although the project is being kept under wraps, the die-hard fans already know Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan, who also penned 'Star Wars: Episode V' and 'Episode VI', have completed the script.
'Episode 7' will be released in December 2015
Even though the rest of the cast is still unknown, several actors have openly admitted to have been approached by the film-makers.
Gary Oldman confirmed to receiving a call from director Abrams to discuss a possible role in the revived iconic sci-fi film series. "I'll believe it when I'm on the plane home. The deal isn't done, but yeah, they've inquired," he said at the time.
Zac Efrom also revealed he has held talks with the production team about possibly starring in the space epic.
The 26 year-old told MTV News, "I just went and met with them. So I don't know. It would be cool. I love [the Star Wars movies], I love them, but. who knows?"
Abrams has publically confirmed to have had discussions with Jesse Plemons, who is rumoured to have the lead, about a role in the film, although no additional information was released.
The slated release date for 'Episode VII' is December 18th 2015.
