Ailing actress Zsa Zsa Gabor went six months without realising her leg had been amputated, according to her husband.

The 95 year old has been in and out of hospital in recent years, and in 2011, she underwent surgery to remove her right leg below the knee to prevent the spread of gangrene.

Her husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt, has now revealed Gabor, who is bed-ridden, didn't find out about the amputation for six months.

He tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, "She found out about it when she told me to sit her up, and she saw it. She couldn't feel it because (one) hand is paralysed and (the other) hand was too short to go on it... Finally, a half-year later she said, 'There is something missing.'"

Von Anhalt also admits he has yet to tell his wife about the death of her comedienne friend Phyllis Diller last month (Aug12) because he doesn't want to upset the fragile star.

He adds, "I didn't tell her... I don't want to give bad news to my wife."
