Deschanel’s representative confirmed to E! on Monday (3rd August) that the 35-year-old actress had welcomed a daughter with Rock the Kasbah producer Jacob Pechenik. This is the first child for both Deschanel and Pechenik.
Deschanel and Pechenik began dating in 2014. The couple have attempted to keep their relationship as private as possible. They confirmed they were expecting a child together in January of this year and, a week later, announced their engagement.
"Jacob and I are over the moon," Deschanel said shortly after announcing her pregnancy, as ABC reports. "We are so excited to meet our little one."
Details on Deschanel’s pregnancy are few but she revealed, whilst appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, they had decided not to find out the gender of their child before the birth.
"We are going to be surprised," Deschanel said of her baby’s gender. "It's more fun, you know? Make it into a game."
It is uncertain when Deschanel and Pechenik tied the knot but it was sometime before the arrival of their daughter.
This is Deschanel’s second marriage. She was previously married to Ben Gibbard, the lead singer of The Postal Service and Death Cab For Cutie. They married in 2009 and announced their separation in 2011, their divorce was finalised the following year.
