Zooey Deschanel may be one of the most popular actresses on US television currently, her role as Jess in 'New Girl' having won her numerous plaudits and a first ever nomination for a Golden Globe, but she hasn't always been so well-liked, revealing in a recent interview that she was bullied as a child, and that it played a part in shaping the person that she is today.
"I was ridiculed," she told the magazine Marie Claire of her time as a 12 year-old at school. Describing herself as "chubby" at the time, she even admitted that another girl once spat in her face. "I really don't know why she spit at me," the actress commented. "I just talked to her. I guess I wasn't allowed to talk to her. I remember I couldn't believe it."
