Actress Zoe Saldana has defended the Allure magazine bosses who revealed her true weight on the cover of their new issue, insisting she's not ashamed of her thin frame.
Editors received backlash from readers this week (begs13May13) after releasing a teaser of the beauty publication's June (13) issue, which features the headline, "Zoe Saldana: 115 pounds of grit and heartache."
Fans were up in arms over concerns the reveal would be detrimental to young girls already struggling with body image issues, prompting publication bosses to speak out about the drama on their official Facebook.com page, writing, "The girl is a powerhouse. And we were so impressed by what a tough, confident woman Saldana is (on-screen, in her action-movie roles, and off) that we wanted to capture that."
And on Thursday (16May13) the Avatar star broke her silence on the controversy during an appearance on U.S. morning show Today, explaining, "I think that it would have been wrong if they were lying about my weight. This is how much I weigh, it's something I can't control, it's who I am, I've always been of a very thin frame - I was a ballet dancer.
"They (editors) wanted to do it, I don't think it was to make an issue of my weight, I think it was to talk about that, for a light-weight person, I seem to be really strong-minded."
Saldana has also addressed reports suggesting she's bisexual after telling Allure she'd be happy to raise kids with a woman as a partner.
The actress, who has dated Bradley Cooper, tells HollyScoop.com, "It wasn't a generalisation; it was a statement that I strongly stand by. As of today, I've been attracted to the male species, but, if one day I wake up and want to be with a woman, I will do that because it is my life, therefore it is my decision."
