The actress Zoe Saldana has rescued an elderly woman after a car accident in Southern California. The Avatar actress was out driving, according to a CBS News report, when she witnessed the accident. She then went to the scene of the crash and called 911. With the assistance of another passer-by, she helped the injured lady - who had a bleeding wound to the face - from her car and led her to the curb. A witness has told People magazine: "While waiting for help to arrive, Zoe returned to the woman's car and picked up the woman's handbag and sweater. Zoe was very caring and sweet to the woman."
Zoe is currently filming a Star Trek sequel due for release in 2013. The film, which will be produced once more by the director Jj Abrams, will feature Chris Pine and Simon Pegg. She is also set to reprise her role as Neytiri in two sequels to Avatar, the James Cameron-directed blockbuster that broke box office records on its release in 2009.
Saldana is not the only celebrity to have been hailed as a life-saver in recent months. Last year, Brad Pitt rescued a woman who was at threat of being trampled on the "chaotic" set of his zombie movie World War Z whilst it was being filmed in Glasgow. And earlier this month, Modern Family star Sofia Vergara attended to a woman who collapsed outside a club in Las Vegas, until paramedics arrived.
