Chinese director Zhang Yimou is suing studio bosses behind his 2009 film A Simple Noodle Story amid allegations he is owed $2.4 million (£1.4 million) in movie revenue.
The Flowers of War filmmaker claims he had an agreement in place with bosses at Beijing New Pictures Co. to split profits from the film equally, but he has yet to receive any payments.
He is seeking compensation for breach of contract.
The movie, also known as A Woman, a Gun and a Noodle Shop, was a remake of the Coen Brothers' 1984 film Blood Simple.
Zhang ended his decade-long working relationship with Beijing New Pictures Co. executives in 2012.
