One Direction are ''cool'' with Zayn Malik's decision to leave the band.

Liam Payne has spoken about their former band mate's departure back in March, revealing although he quit in order to be a ''normal 22 year old'' and to spend more time with his fiancée, Little Mix's Perrie Edwards, there are no bad feelings between them.

He said: ''He wanted to spend time with his family and his missus. That's cool with us.''

Liam - who is one quarter of the chart-topping group alongside Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan - continued to say he could understand the singer's motives for leaving.

He told Lisa Snowdon on Capital FM: ''Sometimes you have to move on because you're not enjoying what you're doing as much as you used to.''

The comments come just days after the 'Best Song Ever' hitmakers admitted they were a ''little bit angry'' when Zayn initially walked away from the band after more than four years together.

Liam previously said: ''At first we were a little bit angry. We were surprised, but I think we all knew the general vibe that Zayn was feeling. There were certain parts of this job that Zayn loved and certain parts of the job that he didn't. If you don't like your job, you've got to follow your heart sometimes and go where you need to go. There's no argument with that.''
