INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWARD winner Zach Braff is in negotiations to rework Chevy Chase's famous FLETCH character for a new Kevin Smith movie.

Braff, who wrote, directed and starred in quirky comedy Garden State, is reportedly the frontrunner to play IRWIN 'FLETCH' FLETCHER in a remake of the cult 1985 film.

According to movie website MOVIEHOLE.NET, Smith had hoped to make a second Fletch sequel a decade ago, but the project fell flat.

In new film FLETCH WON, Smith will work on a novel penned by GREGORY McDONALD, which follows the exploits of an investigative reporter who turns up for an interview only to find the interviewee dead, and then takes it upon himself to figure out who killed him.
