The film's not faring well with the critics.
When it was announced there was to be a big screen release of 'Baywatch', based on the original television series of the same name, not many people really knew what to expect. So, following the reveal that Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Zac Efron would be leading proceedings came a little hope that this could be the revival the franchise needed.
Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson lead the stars of 'Baywatch'
Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case if recent critical reviews are anything to go by. Currently sitting at just 19% on reviews aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes, the film hasn't just failed to make a splash, but it's really being hammered by those who can have a big influence on box office numbers.

The actor is breaking from his usual comedic roles to take on the infamous killer.
Zac Efron is an actor known for a flurry of different roles. Whether it's his breakout role as Troy Bolton in the 'High School Musical' Disney movie trilogy, the charming Link Larkin in the 2007 'Hairspray' film adaptation or his more recent roles in the likes of 'Bad Neighbours' and 'Baywatch', there's certainly one direction many never thought they'd see him going in.
Zac Efron will play serial killer Ted Bundy
That is in the direction of playing a serial killer, but that's exactly what he'll be doing in forthcoming movie 'Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile', as a report from THR states. From documentary filmmaker Joe Berlinger and a script from Michael Werwie, the film tells the story of infamous serial killer Ted Bundy through the eyes of his longtime girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer.

The Baywatch lifeguard team might be the best known on the planet, but in this new reality, they are really struggling with their brand. Mitch Buchanan (Dwayne Johnson) is facing cuts to his squad from the council, because they're apparently not doing enough to get themselves noticed (not even with C.J. Parker's [Kelly Rohrbach] slow-motion run). The top brass at the Baywatch Headquarters decide to try and up the popularity by employing a new member to the team; the young, super-athletic and recklessly wild Matt Brody (Zac Efron) who all the girls might like but Mitch is struggling to whip into shape. He's not exactly setting the best example for safety with his endless spontaneous stunts, and Mitch likes him even less when all he's wearing is minuscule American flag Speedos. But these guys have to find some common ground and band together when a body washes up on their beach.

From the return of our favourite lifeguards to the resurrection of a classic monster, 2017 looks set to be a great year for movie reboots.
Movie reboots are always risky business and in recent years we’ve seen the good, the bad and the ugly, when it comes to studios trying to breathe new life into an old story.
But 2017 looks pretty promising for movie lovers, with some high-profile reboots coming our way that might just be better than the originals.
Beauty and The Beast
It's the long awaited re-boot of the popular TV series.
The first trailer for the upcoming film adaptation of 'Baywatch' is finally here and it's almost like it's a parody of the original series. One thing's for sure, Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron make for an excellent team - even if their characters are totally at odds with each other.
Zac Efron, Dwayne Johnson and Alexandra Daddario in 'Baywatch'
It looks like 'Baywatch' is going to be everything we wanted it to be if the trailer is anything to go by. Complete with slow-mo beach runs and death-defying rescues from burning boats, it's got all the colour of the 90s TV show but with a thick layer of humour and exaggeration.

Mitch Buchanan is facing a problem with his Baywatch lifeguard brand. The council are making cutbacks and the team just aren't getting themselves noticed enough. In a bid to up their popularity and spread some good press, the boss at Baywatch Headquarters brings in an athletic young man named Matt Brody who appears to have far too much confidence in himself. Meanwhile, Mitch has very little confidence in him; mainly because he's spreading a bad example with his endless stream of reckless stunts in the name of fun. Things get serious when a body is found on the beach, and Mitch want to investigate what has happened himself. However, it seems Matt sees this as a step too far and would much rather leave the matter to the police.

The 19-year-old couldn't contain her excitement when Efron surprised her after her gold medal win.
Team USA gymnast Simone Biles is an extremely decorated athlete who has won four Olympic gold medals and is a three-time world all-around champion. But the 19-year-old is also a huge fan of actor Zac Efron and on Tuesday her dreams came true when she finally got to meet the High School Musical star after her Olympic victory.
Watching this gross-out comedy, it's clear that the gifted cast and crew had a great time making it. Scenes are packed with wildly ridiculous improvisation, as the script throws characters into some genuinely outrageous situations. And yet it's never actually funny. The longer the film goes on, the more the audience will wonder why they don't feel in on the joke.
It's loosely based on the true story of chucklehead brothers Mike and Dave (Adam Devine and Zac Efron), whose parents (Stephen Root and Stephanie Faracy) tell them they can't go stag to the wedding of their sister (Sugar Lyn Beard) in Hawaii. They have to find dates to calm down the antics that have ruined family events for years. So Mike and Dave put an ad on Craigslist, and it goes viral, drawing the attention of slacker flatmates Tatiana and Alice (Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick). Pretending to be nice girls, they win over Mike and Dave and head to Hawaii for the big event. But the girls are even more anarchic than the boys. So it's no surprise that a wave of disruptive mayhem follows.
Basically this is a simple coming-of-age story, structured like a standard romantic-comedy that plays out in a series of messy set-pieces. Every beat of the plot is predictable, and the big surprise is that the filmmakers seem terrified of genuine sexuality. Despite using sex and nudity as the (ahem!) butt of most jokes, the film is childish and even prudish. And it doesn't help that virtually all of the gags are obvious and cheap.

With his third rude comedy this year, Zac Efron has seen a definite change in his career path.
After Bad Grandpa and Neighbors 2 (aka Bad Neighbours 2), he's now starring in Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates alongside Pitch Perfect's Adam DeVine. "This last year has been very fun," Efron says. "I was looking to do dramas, then all of a sudden after Neighbors came out people started calling me for comedies. It happened kind of all at once, and it's the last thing I expected, to be honest. I never dreamt in a million years I'd be working with Seth Rogen or Adam DeVine or Anna Kendrick. So it's all a bit surreal for me."
Zac Efron & Adam Devine on the red carpet for the Premiere of Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates
Surprisingly, this new movie is based on a true story, and Efron says that about 80 percent of what's on-screen really happened, including the raunchiest and most far-fetched scenes. "Adam and I play hard-partying, crazy dudes who ruin family events," Efron explains. "Then they were given the final ultimatum to bring two good girls to their sister's wedding in Hawaii." Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza play these seemingly nice girls, who turn out to be even more raucous than Mike and Dave.

When their comedy Neighbors (aka Bad Neighbours) became a break-out hit in 2014, Seth Rogen and Zac Efron found themselves being asked constantly about making a sequel.
But Rogen, who also produced both films and cowrote the sequel, wanted to make sure the moment was right. "A few things made us want to do a sequel," he explains. "We thought that the theme of growing up had an organic place it could go. And that the characters were interesting enough that maybe you would like to see what happened next in their lives. And that could be relatable as well."
For Efron, returning to the role was a no-brainer. "I was excited about the potential for a sequel because I just really love this group of people," he says. "So I just felt that there was more to do with this group. And rather than just like write a whole new movie that we'd all magically fit into, it was convenient that they came up with a sequel! So I was really happy."

The pair seemed happy just recently.
Well, that was unexpected! News outlets confirm this week that Zac Efron has split from his girlfriend of two years Sami Miro, despite the fact that the pair were seen spending time together only two weeks ago in LA. While he was filming 'Baywatch' in Georgia, he apparently made time to join her in LA on weekends.
Zac Efron ditches girlfriend Sami Miro
It's come as quite a shock that the couple have decided to call it quits, given that they seemed quite happy together while hanging out at the MTV Movie Awards this month. Plus, they were food shopping together in Los Angeles on April 11th. While various publications have confirmed the sad news, it's not yet known whether or not the separation was amicable. Some evidence suggests not; Efron has erased Miro's existence on his Instagram and Twitter pages and unfollowed her, though she is yet to do the same and continues to follow her ex-beau.
Check out what the original cast is up to as the new sequel is announced.
It's been eight years since the last sequel to Emmy winning Disney Channel original 'High School Musical' and 10 years since the fun began, but it's finally set to return with an all-new cast in the form of 'High School Musical 4', set to be directed by Jeffrey Hornaday.

It's been 10 years since Zac Efron burst onto the scene in High School Musical
Zac Efron seems genuinely dazzled by the fact that he's now made a film in which he appears alongside with one of cinema's finest actors. "Robert De Niro is the cool dude of all cool dudes," Efron enthuses about his Dirty Grandpa costar. "He's never seen a single one of my films, guaranteed!"

He says that he was so nervous about meeting him that it felt like going on a first date. "Do I come on really strong or do I play it cool, as if it's every day that you meet someone like Robert De Niro?" he laughs. "We had to find out each other's vibe and the way we worked. And then halfway through the movie we sort of just clicked. Basically if you talk to him about anything other than acting, he's an open book. He loves talking."

Apparently the leak wasn't that terrible, since there have been no lawsuits.
Lindsay Lohan really did write down her now infamous list of lovers, which has been providing gossip fodder for a couple of weeks now. But she didn’t do it for the reasons you think. It turns out that Lohan jotted down the thirty or so names, while she was in rehab, as part of her therapy. So said Lohan herself, speaking out about the list on Watch What Happens Live. When questioned by Andy Cohen during the show’s Plead the Fifth segment, Lohan played coy at first.
It sounds like the list is a reminder of times now past for Lohan.
"I cannot confirm or deny it," she said.

Despite his turbulent year, Efron obviously still has his sense of humor.
If you’re looking for a general MTV Movie Awards rundown, let us point you in that direction. This post deals almost exclusively with Zac Efron’s abs because we all need more of that in our lives. When Zefron won the award for best shirtless performance (for his role in "That Awkward Moment") during Sunday's show, there was only one suitable course of action. Speeches were pointless, when fans really wanted to see just one thing from the actor.
Efron looked much more dapper at the Oscars, but we might prefer the MTV Awards look.
So he obliged.

Last week the 26 year-old actor hit headlines after finding himself in a fight with a group of homeless men in a run-down part of Los Angeles.

Zac Efron's latest incident his just another event in what's been a troubled year for the actor.
This week Zac Efron found himself in the headlines again, after he was involved in a fight in the Skid Row area of Los Angeles on Sunday. According to reports Efron was punched in the face during the scuffle, which allegedly started after he threw a bottle out of his car window and it smashed on the pavement near a group of homeless men. Many are questioning though just why Zac happened to be in this notoriously dodgy part of L.A., especially after the year he's just had which included a rehab stint for cocaine addiction.
Zac Efron was attacked in Skid Row on Sunday
It was Disney’s ‘High School Musical’ films that made Efron a star when he played Troy Bolton, the basketball player who also had a penchant for singing. The part might have made him a household name but it was a character he knew he had to break free from if he was to make the transition from teen actor to movie star. In 2007 he earned positive reviews for his performance in the remake of ‘Hairspray' but his next outing the 'High School Musical' sequel had him back in the public consciouness as Troy, more than ever before. The next year he starred in what is the last 'High School Musical' movie to date, 'High School Musical 3: Senior Year'.

Four days into the conference, there's already a lot to be excited about.
For those who care about films in the slightest, South by Southwest is the place to be this week. The conference, which runs March 7th through March 16th in Austin, Texas, is the place for enthusiasts to see the latest films, get album previews and generally have tons of fun. So, four days into SXSW, what are the highlights?
The VM cast was out in full force at SXSW.
First of all, there was Seth Rogen and Zac Efron’s Neighbors, which pits Rogen against Efron in a battle for dominance over a suburban street. In this comedy, directed by Nicholas Stoller from a script by Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O’Brien, Rogen plays one half of a newly married couple, who are just settling into their cozy suburban nest. Efron and his band of frat boys, however, are there to ruin everything. According to THR, Neighbors got big laughs at its Paramount Theater premiere, so it might be one to look out for later in the year.
As the cast takes shape, tension is heightened for the highly anticipated reboot
The Star Wars: Episode VII train rumbles on. Scripts issues have been settled; shooting dates and locations have been verified and finally agreed upon. Now it’s time to build up an unforgettable cast and not ruin the legendary sci-fi franchise forever.
Would you be happy with an Efron-starring Star Wars film?
Former Disney star Zac Efron is the latest high-profile star to be linked with a role, and he didn’t do much to douse those flames of intrigue by confirming a meeting between he and his former employers took place.
Even a strongly likeable cast can't breathe life into this ill-conceived film, which poses as a sex comedy but is ultimately timid and sappy. The premise is intriguing enough to catch our interest, but it ends up being three badly written romantic-comedies woven together in a way that makes them neither romantic nor comedic.
The story strands centre on three best buddies enjoying their late-20s in New York. Jason (Efron) is the womaniser, breaking up the moment any girl begins to get serious. Daniel (Teller) is the clown, using humour to find women, usually with the help of his friend Chelsea (Davis). And Mikey (Jordan) is the responsible one, a medical doctor happily married to Vera (Lucas). Except that she leaves him, prompting Jason and Daniel to promise to stay single with him in solidarity. Then instantly, each of them finds himself in a relationship: Jason falls for wild-girl Ellie (Poots), Daniel realises that he's in love with Chelsea, and Mikey secretly tries to get Vera back.
The problem is that there's very little chemistry between any of the characters. Not only are the love stories strained and implausible, but the bromance never even gets off the ground because filmmaker Gormican is clearly terrified of any kind of male affection. He's also not very good at depicting sexuality, with only a couple of scenes played for comedy value. In fact, all of the film's sharp edges have been surgically removed, leaving only the illusion of gross-out humour.

Naturally the video was an open invitation for parodies and we were quickly given Seth Rogen and James Franco's hilarious 'Bound 3.'

This starry drama has documentary realism going for it, although without a single well-developed character it never finds any resonance. By recounting JFK's assassination from a variety of previously unseen angles, we learn some new things about that fateful day in November 1963. Oddly, the script doesn't even focus on the hospital that gives the film its name. That might have helped give the film some focus.
We watch the shooting in Dallas through the eyes of Abraham Zapruder (Giamatti), famously the only person to capture the event on film. He is immediately contacted by a Secret Service agent (Thornton), who helps him process the film and make copies. Meanwhile at Parkland Hospital, two residents (Efron and Hanks) and a tenacious nurse (Harden) are working against the odds to save Kennedy's life. And elsewhere, an FBI agent (Livingston) is following the trail of the shooter, whose brother and mother (Dale and Weaver) have very different reactions to what has just happened.
Writer-director Landesman jumps straight into the events without properly establishing the characters. But it's impossible to feel emotion when we don't know anything about the people we're watching, and we can't feel suspense when we know what's going to happen. So we're left to soak up the details, which are often fascinating (ever wonder how to get a coffin into a plane?). And while the actors are good enough to play the intensity of each scene for all it's worth, the only ones who register with us are Giamatti and Dale, because what their characters go through is more complex than we expect.

Pretty soon though, Daniel also finds his feelings are deepening for Chelsea and Mikey still has a lot of emotions to overcome. Even when their love lives start becoming less complicated, they find themselves struggling to adapt to monogamous lives.
This romantic comedy deals with the all too real circumstances of fledgling love. It has been directed and written by Tom Gormican (co-producer of 'Movie 43') in his directorial and screenwriting debut, and production was undertaken by Scott Aversano ('School of Rock', 'Killers'), Justin Nappi ('All Is Lost'), Andrew O'Connor ('Peep Show') and Kevin Turen. We've been waiting on this one for a while, and it looks as though Seth Rogen's latest movie Neighbors may be worth it. According to HitFix.com, Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Nicholas Stoller wanted to make a "stunningly dirty and wildly funny film" - and with Neighbors, they may well have succeeded.
Originally titled Townies, the move follows young couple Mac (Rogen) and Kelly (Rose Byrne) - a young couple who have just gone through two extremely stressful experiences, having a baby and moving home.
Of course, when a fraternity run by a hard-partying teenager (Zac Efron) moves in next door - things get a little more difficult. At first, the couple - who appear to still consider themselves relatively hip - reach out to the frat guys, though it quickly becomes apparent that it's going to be all out war.

As we approach the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy’s fatal shooting, commemorative programming is inevitable. Parkland tells the story of Abraham Zapruder – the amateur photographer who inadvertently caught the day’s tragic events on film – and Zac Efron as Dr. Charles James – the rookie doctor who saw the president of the United States enter his theatre.
"This is a movie about the ground truth from the ground level," Director Peter Landesman said about the film. "What surprised me was the power and poignancy of those who survived that day and the three that followed -- the heroism, the instincts and the pathos of those swept up in this tsunami. This is an event that happened to individuals."

When Abraham Zapruder, a women's clothing manufacturer from Texas, excitedly set up his camera to record the grand arrival of the much-loved President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jackie Kennedy in Dallas on November 22nd 1963, he had no idea that he would in fact record one of the most shocking and most watched films in history when the President was fatally shot by a nearby gunman. He became one of a string of unlikely individuals to get involved in one of the world's most publicised assassination cases, along with all the doctors and nurses who were forced to overcome the shock when Kennedy was rushed to Parkland Hospital; the family of the alleged killer, US Marine Lee Harvey Oswald; and those FBI agents who could've prevented the incident when they had Oswald in their grasp.
'Parkland' is a new historical drama about one of the most famous assassinations in history which is set for release ahead of the event's 50th anniversary. It has been directed and written by Peter Landesman who is controversially best known for his New York Times article on sex slavery 'The Girls Next Door' which he later turned into a film called 'Trades' and which was publicly accused of being at least partly fictitious. 'Parkland' is set to be released in the UK on November 8th 2013.
Will Ryan Gosling choose Star Wars over Batman?
Ryan Gosling attended a meeting with a view to playing Luke Skywalker's son in Jj Abrams forthcoming Star Wars Episode 7 movie, according to the Latino-Review, which 'broke' the news that Harrison Ford would be returning to the franchise.
Disney is keen to land Gosling for the role though missed out on another high profile star.
According to the website's sources, the studio had a meeting with Leonardo Dicaprio who eventually passed on the project to concentrate on Robotech, a forthcoming "sprawling sci-fi epic" where mankind is forced to use technology to fend off three successive waves of alien invasions.

Jamie Pressly's fight with Estella Warren came after some quick thinking and the use of a "find my phone" application.
Jamie Pressly's fight with Estella Warren in Hollywood on Friday (April 5, 2013) appears to have started over a stolen cell-phone. Pressly, of My Name is Earl fame, was enjoying herself at a birthday party in Los Angeles, until her assistant's phone went missing, leading to a nasty confrontation with Warren, 42. According to US Weekly, the police had to be called and the situation took hours to resolve.
An insider said Pressly, 35, simply wanted to get her assistant's phone back and that the confrontation could hardly be called a fight. Another source said Pressly and her assistant discovered that the phone had gone missing at the original party location, though used the "find my phone" application to track it down. Strangely, it tracked it to hotspot Bootsy Bellows, where Warren and several other guests including Zac Efron and Adam Lambert were continuing the celebrations. According to the source, Warren claimed the phone was hers once Pressly had arrived and confronted her.
At one point, drugs were allegedly discovered in Warren's purse, which led to the police getting involved. "Jaime and her assistant were volunteering for a drug test. They said the drugs weren't theirs. It was this crazy mess," added the source.

At Any Price appears to continue Ramin Bahrani's strong run of movie form.
Ok, so we'll admit we probably weren't expecting much before seeing the trailer for 'At Any Price,' starring Zac Efron and Dennis Quaid. Essentially, Efron plays an aspiring professional car racer who looks to escape the shackles of his home-life in Iowa - sounds pretty standard fare right? Though dig a little deeper - watch the trailer for one - and there's more than meets the eye here.
Quaid plays Henry Whipple, a respected farmer who looks to expand his three generation-old farming land. However, when his favorite son Grant flies the coop as a football star, he does his best to push his youngest son Dean (Efron) into the family business. Things don't go to plan and Dean has other things on his mind, principally reaching the racing heights of NASCAR after impressing on the local circuit. Meanwhile, Henry is investigated by GMO corn company Liberty Seeds and his whole career hangs in the balance. Billed as an "immersing family drama," the movie appears to feature some pretty fine performances - especially from Quaid - and the project seems to have been in good hands. Firstly, it's directed and co-produced by Ramin Bahrani, the man behind the exceptional Chop Shop and a filmmaker dubbed "the director of the decade" by critic Roger Ebert, who sadly passed away this week. In one of the final reviews, Ebert said of At Any Price, "This is a brave, layered film that challenges the wisdom of victory at any price."

Filmmaker Daniels follows up his acclaimed hit Precious with what might be the trashiest movie in recent memory: a swampy thriller packed with desperate characters hiding grisly secrets. Daniels and his cast dive headlong into this garish world, refusing to blink as they take us to the fringes of human behaviour. It's so marvellously audacious that we feel like we need a shower after watching it.
The film takes us into the steamy backwoods of central Florida in 1969, as Miami journalist Ward (McConaughey) returns home with his black colleague Yardley (Oyelowo), who sparks whispers of racism everywhere he goes. Staying with his editor dad (Glenn) and delivery boy brother Jack (Efron), Ward is investigating the case of death row inmate Hillary (Cusack), whose trashy fiancee Charlotte (Kidman) is filing an appeal. The 20-year-old Jack is instantly smitten with the overtly sexual Charlotte, who seems happy to seduce every man she meets. And as Ward, Yardley and Jack dig deeper into the case, they get several startling surprises.
Daniels keeps the film sweaty and snarky as he delves into the story's seriously dark corners. And the actors all go along with him. The always terrific Kidman really goes for broke here, prowling through each scene and oozing raw sexuality. It's no wonder she triggers Jack's lust, and Efron plays him with a delicate balance of intelligence and naivete, underscored of course with relentless horndog desire. None of the characters are as dumb as they look, and McConaughey, Oyelowo and especially Cusack revel in playing against expectations. Each actor packs every line with attitude and insinuation, creating fascinating chemistry along the way.

His son Dean, however, wants to be a professional racing driver and already looks set to be a huge star with his sport earning him numerous awards. With the Whipple business under threat of breaking down with no heir to carry it on, tensions arise in the household as Henry struggles to put his family's interests before the welfare of his company. He also co-wrote the movie with Hallie Elizabeth Newton in her screenwriting debut. They're just on the set of their new film Are We Officially Dating? but boy howdy can you spot the chemistry between Zac Efron and his co-star Imogen Poots. The film is set in Manhattan and follows three Big Apple bachelors - including one played by High School Musical star Efron - as they enjoy living it up as singletons in New York. However, this wouldn't be a romantic tale without a big obvious twist, and so it does, with Efron's character meeting Poots' and the protagonist being forced to decide whether he'll carry on playing around at being one of the Lads, or whether he'll give into love. I think we all know which way that one's going don't we.
Most of these movies feature actors, actresses and filmmakers who really should know better...
This heavy-handed drug-war thriller proves that Oliver Stone has lost the ability to tell a balanced story. And the all-star cast seems clueless about why they're here. Except a vamping Salma Hayek.

Charlotte Bless is a busty, blonde, middle-aged woman who enchants most men she meets with her looks and sexual appeal. She has fallen emphatically in love with Hillary Van Wetter, an inmate on death row accused of murdering a sheriff with whom she is regularly in correspondence with, and plans to marry him once she finds a way of getting him released. She enlists the help of two newspaper reporters to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crime and to gather evidence to prove his innocence. One of their main objections is that the judge who sentenced Wetter did not see the evidence that was presented before him in court. Whilst Charlotte is convinced that Wetter is not a bad person, young Jack Jansen is equally convinced that she doesn't really love Wetter and becomes deeply infatuated with her.
