Yoko Ono has recalled the suffering of her late father who was incarcerated in a Vietnam concentration camp during the Second World War. Ono, the widow of Beatles singer John Lennon, was evacuated from her native Tokyo to the countryside during the 1945 bombings of the Japanese city. Although her mother accompanied her, Ono's father EISUKE was imprisoned in Vietnam (formerly French Indochina) at the time - without the family's knowledge. Ono recalls, "He never referred to it when we saw him again. "I remember returning to Tokyo and seeing what was once a beautiful city turned into a bomb site."
