LATEST: Bollywood star Salman Khan has been given a temporary reprieve from a one-year jail sentence for killing a protected antelope species during an illegal hunting trip in Rajasthan, India. Khan was found guilty last month (FEB06) of killing two blackbucks in 1998. However, on Friday (10MAR06) District Judge Yashpal Choudhary ordered the sentence to be put on hold to consider his appeal against the charge. Fellow stars Saif Ali Khan, TABU, NEELAM and Sonali Bendre were accused of accompanying Khan during the alleged slaughter but were subsequently acquitted. Khan's lawyer DIPESH MEHTA says, "We have based our appeal on various issues but we are primarily arguing that Mr Khan was not involved in the hunting and the evidence on which the chief magistrate has based his verdict does not prove that the alleged offence has been committed by Mr Khan." Khan's next hearing is scheduled for 12 April (06).
