Microsoft is stepping up its competition with Netflix and Amazon to create original online entertainment principally aimed at users of its XBOX game console. The London Financial Times reported today (Thursday) that Microsoft has agreed to finance the development and production of a remake of the BBC sci-fi series Blake's 7, which aired in the 1970s and '80s. Martin Campbell, who directed the James Bond flick Casino Royale, has been selected to direct the series, episodes of which are expected to contain interactive elements, the FT indicated. The new deal follows one negotiated begween Microsoft and Steven Spielberg aimed at bringingthe Xbox game Halo to the small screen.
