The new X-Men movie has proven to be a bigger monster at the the U.S. box office than Godzilla, toppling the blockbuster with a $90.7 million (Gbp57 million) Memorial Day weekend take.

The all-star X-Men: Days of Future Past dominated at cinemas across the U.S. and is now on track to make at least $110 million (Gbp69 million) over the four-day weekend - making it the second-largest holiday opening for the franchise.

Meanwhile, Godzilla continues to roar at the U.S. box office, taking in a second -weekend $31.43 million (Gbp20 million) over the weekend. The film has now made over $148 million (Gbp92.5 million).

Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler's latest comedy Blended comes in third with an opening weekend haul of $14.25 million (Gbp9 million).

Neighbors and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 round out the new top five, according to studio estimates. The official box office results will be released on Monday (26May14).
