Film legend Woody Allen will take a break from directing in 2004 - so he can act in a new movie about the infamous 1972 PIERRE HOTEL robbery in his native New York.

The ANNIE HALL star is already holding talks with Bullets Over Broadway actor John Cusack about the project.

Allen hopes to adapt Ira Berkow's book THE MAN WHO ROBBED THE PIERRE: THE STORY OF BOBBY COMFORT for the screen.

The book charts the circumstances behind the crime, when five men clad in tuxedos tied up 16 of the Pierre's employees and stole millions of dollars.
