Woody Allen has praised Scarlett Johansson for waiving her usual multi-million dollar fee to star in two of his movies.

The veteran New York director admits he's never able to offer his cast and crew the money they'd earn in a Hollywood project, but feels privileged his reputation alone is enough to entice stars as big as Johansson to his movies.

He says, "She was willing to work for the very, very small money that we can afford to pay people - the budgets for the films are very small."

Johansson's first Allen film Match Point premiered at the CANNES FILM FESTIVAL last week (ends13MAY05). She's also signed up for a currently untitled second movie for the former stand-up comedian.
