Insisting that men got the better deal when it came to people thinking actors are like the characters they play, Dunham launched into a personal attack.

Magic In The Moonlight Review

Very Good

After the high of last year's Blue Jasmine, Woody Allen is back in playful mode for this rather goofy comedy, which only works for audience members willing to abandon their cynicism and just go with the flow. A solid cast makes the most of Allen's cleverly barbed dialogue, even if the performances and filmmaking sometimes feel a bit slapdash. And Allen's deeper existential themes add a hint of depth to the silliness.

It opens in 1928 Berlin, as the magician Stanley (Colin Firth) is convinced by his friend Howard (Simon McBurney) to travel to the South of France to debunk a young American mystic named Sophie (Emma Stone), who has a wealthy family in her thrall. Not only has Sophie convinced the matriarch (Jacki Weaver) that she can communicate with her dead husband, but she has also attracted the puppy-dog devotion of Brice (Hamish Linklater), the sweetly dim heir to the family fortune. But no matter how hard Stanley tries, he can't prove that Sophie is a fraud, and accepting her supernatural powers completely upends his relentlessly pessimistic view of humanity. Although it's even trickier to convince himself that he might be falling for Sophie.

Allen sets all of this up in a very simple way, prodding Firth to a hilariously ridiculous performance as a repressed Englishman for whom life has to be completely rational. Facing him off against Stone's young, free-flowing American is a bit obvious, but the script makes sure that their barbed banter overflows with witty repartee. This includes astute commentary on Allen's favourite theme: exploring the meaning of life through the contradictory blending of science, religion and human emotion. So even if the performances are rather oddly matched, Firth and Stone find some superb chemistry along the way. Although the snappiest role belongs to Eileen Atkins, as Stanley's beloved aunt, who has a wonderfully dry way of speaking the truth.

Fading Gigolo Review

Very Good

With a witty observational script, amusing characters and a jazzy sense of life in New York, this feels like an old-fashioned Woody Allen movie, even though Allen merely costars in it. Instead, it was written and directed by leading actor John Turturro, with an easy-going charm that's irresistible even if it feels vaguely dated. And despite its potentially controversial premise, the film is so gentle that it's unlikely to ruffle many feathers.

Turturro stars as Fioravante, a florist whose life hasn't gone as planned. His one-time mentor Murray (Allen) has just been forced to close his grandfather's rare-book shop, and with too much time on his hand has started working on Fior's life. Murray thinks Fior could make a living as an escort, and sends him on a date with his dermatologist (Sharon Stone). When that goes well, a string of wealthy clients follow, including the man-eating Selima (Sofia Vergara). But one of Murray's friends is more reluctant: the devout Avigail (Vanessa Paradis) is a widowed rabbi's wife who can't have contact with other men. As she and Fior begin a tentative friendship, there might be something meaningful developing. Then a jealous community cop (Schreiber) notices that something is amiss.

As a director, Turturro keeps the scenes grounded in real situations that centre on the characters rather than the machinations of the plot. This offers a lively depiction of this neighbourhood as a melting pot of African-Americans, Italians and Hasidic Jews who are part of each others' lives. Some of this might feel a bit contrived (Murray also adopts a sprawling black family), but the interaction is jaggedly funny and packed with a generous stream of honest emotion.

Despite everyone around her insisting that she has displayed psychic abilities beyond anyone's comprehension, Stanley is determined to force her to reveal her deceptive secrets, but on meeting her it seems that he also is captivated. Extremely beautiful, Sophie becomes something of a love interest for Stanley and, in spite of his initial doubts, he too finds himself unable to explain some of the extraordinary feats Sophie is demonstrating, and he starts to wonder if the world really is full of magic.

The controversy surrounding Woody Allen and Mia Farrow's bizarre family continues but Diane Keaton doesn't believe the rumours alleging Allen molested his adopted daughter.

Diane Keaton has defended Woody Allen in a recent interview with a British newspaper.

Allen's adopted daughter with Mia Farrow, Dylan Farrow, wrote an editorial in The New York Times in which she alleges Allen sexually assaulted her when she was seven years old. Allen responded in an open letter stating he had no history of sexual assault and the timing of the allegations, at the same time as his divorce to Farrow, appears suspicious.

For Or Against Woody Allen? The Argument Splitting Hollywood

Woody Allen Lena Dunham Cate Blanchett

When Dylan Farrow published an open letter concerning her father, Woody Allen, reiterating her claims that he sexually abused her, Hollywood didn’t really know how to react. Allen was in the midst of praise for his latest movie Blue Jasmine, for which Cate Blanchett would go on to win the Oscar, and Allen’s career was at its zenith.

woody allen soon yi Woody Allen, seen here with his one time step-daughter, now wife, Soon-Yi, always maintains his innocence

Yet it wasn’t so easy to ignore Farrow’s claims this time round. The first time the accusations had been made she was a child and Allen had ultimately not been charged with any crime, despite the case being investigated by prosecutors. But this time there was a 28 year old woman making the claims, eloquently and clearly she once again repeated the accusations she had made against Allen as a child, this time with her own adult analysis.  Farrow asks in her letter “What if it had been your child, Cate Blanchett? Louis CK? Alec Baldwin? What if it had been you, Emma Stone? Or you, Scarlett Johansson? You knew me when I was a little girl, Diane Keaton. Have you forgotten me?”

Mindy Kaling And The Stupidest Red Carpet Questions, Ever

Mindy Kaling Kevin Spacey Woody Allen

“Who are you wearing?”, “Are you excited to be here?”, “Do you want to win?” are just a few of the inane questions that get yelled at the stars as they walk down the red carpet. But every now and then a question gets asked that is so mind-blowingly idiotic, or eyebrow-raisingly nonsensical that you just have to ask, how are these people allowed within 100 feet of celebrities? And more to the point, who thought it was a good idea to give them a microphone and put them on the television? Usually the answer is E! news.

mindy kaling red carpet Mindy was asked to specify what race she found attractive

For instance, E! news correspondent Alicia Quarles recently asked The Mindy Project star Mindy Kaling what race of guys she likes. Yes, you read that right. “Who’s your type?” she asked Kaling, who seemed confused by the question. “Good looking?”, Kaling responded with the quizzical intonation of someone who is confounded. This wasn’t enough for Quarles though, who continued “So, any colour?”. It’s more than a little intrusive to begin with to ask the star what kind of men she likes, but to demand a race be included in her bizarre interrogation is just too much.

Woody Allen and Mia Farrow's adoptive daughter, Dylan O'Sullivan Farrow, has published an open letter detailing the abuse she allegedly suffered at the hands of Allen.

Woody Allen adopted two children, Dylan and Moses, with Mia Farrow in addition to their biological son.

Farrow and Allen were in a relationship from 1980 and had one biological child, Ronan 'Satchel' Farrow, together and adopted two children, one of whom is Dylan. The couple separated in 1992 when Farrow discovered Allen was having a relationship with her adoptive daughter, Soon-Yi. During the subsequent custody battle, there were a number of allegations made against Allen relating to alleged abuse of then 7-year-old Dylan. The case was brought to court in September 1993 and a number of rulings dismissed Allen's abuse charges, according to The American Law Library. However, the Connecticut State Attorney Frank Maco, announced that he had "probable cause" to prosecute Allen, he was dropping the case in order to protect Dylan from "the trauma of appearing in court."
