A little-known model and heavy metal guitarist has become the shock frontrunner in the race to land the coveted Wonder Woman role, according to WARNER BROTHERS studio sources.

Former MUCHMUSIC USA presenter SATU RAUTAHARJU (corr) has emerged ahead of Sarah Michelle Gellar and Buffy The Vampire Slayer co-star Charisma Carpenter as the studio favourite to take over from LINDA CARTER as the comic book superheroine.

Gellar and Carpenter's names became obvious choices when it was announced that Buffy creator Joss Whedon was to write and direct the Wonder Woman movie.

Since then, Jennifer Connelly, Angelina Jolie and Bollywood star AISHWARYA RAI have been linked to the role.

But now, studio bosses are looking at Rautaharju, who provides the English-speaking voice for BENTEN in the Japanese animated URUSEI YATSURA film series to star in the five Wonder Woman movies they have planned for the next 10 years.

The Canadian model/actress is already a favourite at Warner Brothers, having appeared on WB TV shows DAWSON'S CREEK and One Tree Hill.
