So Long

What this so called ‘New Bob Dylan’ of our time, like so many other musicians with this tag, has brought us is a far more traditional style of musical influence. It’s as if a whole new generation of musicians have bypassed the simply pap music of the 90’s (bar Nirvana & the odd exception) and gone balls out of the bath straight back to its core roots, traditional all the way. What strikes me with this single, and also I suppose the album, is its true authenticity and simplicity. No snazzy production values, just stripped to the bone vocals and bare essential instruments.

This guy being just 20 makes you think harder about the origins to which this music works. To me it’s like he is on a different level and oblivious to current trends just enjoying doing what he is doing and to me this is very, very refreshing, and it is this that unquestionably shows through. This song a happier affair with comparison from most the numbers on his debut long player ‘Were The Humans Eat’. To be honest it’s just simply a great song to listen to whether on your own or with company.

Buy it. In fact buy the whole album, a definite high point form 2005. 9/10
