Country legend Willie Nelson has thrown his support behind Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis by agreeing to perform at her campaign fundraiser event later this month (Apr14).

Davis, who is running against Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott to succeed Governor Rick Perry, announced the news to her supporters in an email on Friday (11Apr14).

In the message, the Democrat writes, "No, folks, I'm not kidding. We'll have some amazing Texas Bbq. We'll be talking about the future of our great state. And at the end of the night, we'll have a special performance by Willie (Nelson)."

Davis has spoken about her fondness for the musician in the past, telling the New York Times last year (13): "I also love listening to Willie Nelson. There's something about his voice that pulls at your emotion. He's certainly seen his fair share of troubles, but he just keeps rolling."
