William Shatner surprised the crew of the 'Discovery' space shuttle with a wake-up call this morning (7th March 2011).
William Shatner reprised his role as Starship Enterprise captain James Kirk when he delivered a wake-up call to the sleeping astronauts aboard the Discovery space shuttle today, reports the New York Daily News.Shatner began his call at 3.23am, saying, "Space, the final frontier. These have been the voyages of the space shuttle Discovery. Her 30-year mission: To seek out new science. To build new outposts. To bring nations together on the final frontier. To boldly go, and do, what no spacecraft has done before". The theme from 'Star Trek' played in the background as the 79-year-old spoke. Discovery is currently on its final scheduled mission. It has made 39 flights in total, including 13 journeys to the International Space Station. It is due to land at Florida's Kennedy Space Centre on Wednesday afternoon (9th March 2011).
William Shatner starred as Captain Kirk in the hugely popular television series 'Star Trek' from 1966 to 1969 and also featured in numerous movie adaptations. He is scheduled to host the Genie Awards later this week. The Canadian film industry celebration is set to air on Cbc-TV on Thursday 10th March 2011.
