Embattled British soap star Bill Roache has been charged with five counts of indecent assault dating back to the 1960s.

The Coronation Street actor, 81, is already fighting two charges of rape relating to an alleged attack on a 15 year old girl in 1967, and on Thursday (06Jun13) he was hit with a further five offences involving four females aged between 12 and 16.

Officials at the U.K.'s Crown Prosecution Service decided to press charges over the latest incidents, which reportedly took place between 1965 and 1968, after reviewing evidence collected by Lancashire Police.

Roache, who has played Ken Barlow in hit U.K. soap opera Coronation Street since 1960, is due to appear in court in Preston, England on Friday (07Jun13).

The actor vehemently denied the rape allegations when he was arrested last month (May13) and insisted he was "astounded" by the claims.
