Willem Dafoe is in discussions to star in 'Pacific Rim'.

The 56-year-old 'Shadow of the Vampire' actor is in line for the role of a rogue scientist who is an expert in alien creatures for the project, set to be directed by Guillermo Del Toro and co-starring Charlie Day, Charlie Hunman, Idris Elba and Max Martini.

The film tells the story of an alien invasion that threatens to destroy the world, but the humans aim to take out the extraterrestrial danger by taking control of giant robots.

British actor Rob Kazinsky - who was cast in the two 'Hobbit' films before pulling out for personal reasons - has recently signed up for the movie, which is set to start filming this autumn.

He is set to play one of the men tasked with helping stop the alien invasion from taking over the world.

Travis Beacham has written The Script for the picture, which will be set in 2025, 12 years after a group of aliens, who reside in the Pacific Ocean, have started war on the globe.
