Will Smith gained 'Men In Black 3' some rather unwanted promotion ahead of its release this coming Friday, when, at an event in Moscow, he took exception to a news reporter apparently trying to kiss and gave him a slap around the mouth for his troubles. It's come under some scrutiny, with the usually amiable actor coming in for some stick as a result.
However, MTV News reports that Smith took to 'The David Letterman Show' to clear the air on the subject, and played down suggestions that he'd beaten up the red carpet interviewer. "I didn't beat up a guy!" he insisted, continuing "No, no. I was in Moscow and ... we're doing an interview and he says, 'Man ...,' he was a reporter and he says, 'I'm your biggest fan, can I have a hug, please?' So I go to give this joker a hug and he tries to lean in to kiss me, you know? And ... it's just awkward, Dave."
That sounds fair enough really, and Smith made it clear he wasn't really up for having a stranger of a man kiss him on the lips in general, saying that he talked it through with the reporter's crew, and claiming "They were [like] 'We're sorry, you know, it's just his shtick.' and I said, 'That's why his ass got shtuck".
