Will Ferrell and his Gary Sanchez Productions partner Adam McKay have teamed up with Sony Picture Animation to plan the remake of the 1980s TV show 'Manimal' about a man who fights crime by morphing into animals.
According to Deadline, Sony Picture Animation has called in the pair's company, Gary Sanchez Productions, as well as Jimmy Miller's Mosaic, to plan the reboot of the cult 1980s TV show which follows a man who fights crimes by morphing into various animals.
Miller, Ferrell, and McKay will also team up with the original series co-creator Glen A. Larson, while Jay Martel and Ian Roberts are believed to be writing the script.
Although the 1983 series - which starred Simon MacCorkindale as Dr. Jonathan Chase - was cancelled after just eight episodes, Miller, McKay and Ferrell have jumped at the chance to produce the live-action-animation.
McKay explained: ''I think it's right down our alley, it's what we do.
''It's tongue-in-cheek and has an action component, but overall it's a comedy.
''I know the movie will be funny and entertaining, but will it be the first film to win a Pulitzer? We'll just have to see.''
The trio are currently looking for a director to helm the project.
The 'Anchorman' star and his comedy co-writer, Adam, are also planning a 'Flintstones' remake.
The duo have enlisted the help of 'The Other Guys' scribe Chris Henchy to bring the pre-historic gang, comprised of Fred Flintstone, Barney Rubble and their respective wives Wilma and Betty, to life in a new animated big screen version of the classic cartoon.
