Comedian Will Ferrell delighted students at the University of Southern California on Monday (14Oct13) when he joined his alma mater's marching band dressed as the school's unofficial mascot, Tommy Trojan.

The Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy star attended a rally in support of his old pal Craig Pollard's Cancer for College charity, which provides sick students with scholarships to further their education.

During the visit, Ferrell agreed to don the Trojan's full garb to lead the band in a performance of school fight song The Spirit of Troy - and, in doing so, he became the first non-marching band member in history to wear the mascot's uniform.

The trip back to Usc wasn't the funnyman's only recent surprise appearance - he made an unannounced visit to the locker room of the Trojans' recent University of Washington American football game to meet players before the game.

Ferrell used to be a regular at Usc football practices and events, forming a friendship with former head coach Pete Carroll.
