Will you go and catch the new look Anchorman 2?
If you saw Anchorman 2 on the day of release, then you’re likely to be one of those superfans who still quotes the original movie. And you’re precisely the type of audience who’ll go and see a second showing of the sequel with 763 new jokes in it.
How many smoking crack jokes can you make? Probably loads
That’s right: Anchorman 2 (version 2) will be out again in cinemas for a week starting February 28 in both the U.K and U.S. It’ll feature over 700 new jokes and be 20 minutes longer. What’s not to like?
Speaking on the Tonight Show, Ferrell said: "Originally the movie was four hours long, and they played around with the idea of splitting it into two movies. It's the same movie, it's 20 minutes longer, there's a musical number we had to cut from the original one, little treats like that."
Director Adam McKay had previously confirmed that another version of the movie was on the cards, saying: "We did so much improve on this one that we can literally replace every single joke in the movie and put in alt scenes and alt improv runs," McKay explained.
“I think the editor’s working on it right now, with 250 new jokes. I think it would be really funny to put it in theatres for midnight showings. I know that I personally, if I loved a movie and someone told me that, like if 'Airplane!' had been released with all-new jokes, I’d be like, ‘you’ve got to be fucking kidding me!’ I’d see it in a second,” he added, via Indiewire.
Anchorman 2 managed to pull together $169.2m from the global market, and you can expect that figure to rise another $10m or so with the re-release as die-hard fans of the franchise lap up the opportunity to soak up some more Ron Burgundy.
