Will Arnett Wore Out His Voice As Lego Batman

Will Arnett

After voicing Batman in 2014's The Lego Movie, Will Arnett was intrigued by proposals to spin off the character into his own adventure, The Lego Batman Movie. "It's very fun to take an iconic character like Batman and play with the rules that have always been there for him," he says. "Keep it consistent in terms of him being good at what he does and having that bravado and machismo but, at the same time, make him a little more flawed and a little bit goofier"

Lego Batman Movie

Arnett says the idea was to see why Batman was so moody in The Dark Knight trilogy. He says there's inherent comedy in the idea that this handsome billionaire has a cave full of great gadgets but is still upset about something. "It made sense within the Lego world to explore that," he says. "And we've tried to expand on that in this movie and really get down to what makes Batman tick. But as you record a few sessions and you get on these tangents, you end up taking the entire story down a road that wasn't necessarily the intended road. It can totally drastically change the narrative just through goofing around."

Of Course, There's Going To A 'Lego Movie' Sequel, It's Already Being Written!

Will Ferrell Will Arnett

The Lego Movie clocked up nearly $70m on its debut. It racked up a ridiculously high score on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic combined, and is being talked about in the same breath as Toy Story and Finding Nemo. It’s a smash.

Lego MovieThe Lego Movie is the best thing ever, according to everyone who's seen it, reviewed it or been in the same world in which it exists

So it makes perfect sense that Warner Bros. are already in talks to get a sequel off the ground, with screenwriters Jared Stern and Michelle Morgan are already hard at work mapping out possible storylines for the franchise to take.

'The Lego Movie' Shoots Its Way Into The Top 5 Animated Movies Of All Time

Will Arnett Toy Story Disney Pixar

In light of The Lego Movie’s success, we’ve taken a look at some of the best computer-animated films out there. Based on Rotten Tomatoes ratings, combined with Metacritic ratings (the most accurate way we could think to rank them) the latest Lego romp finds itself in some pretty prestigious company indeed…

Animated film posters

To be clear: films included in this top 5 are computer animated, rather than the complicated, classic style of animation employed in films like Pinocchio from 1940. There’s nothing wrong with a bit of animation cells and Zerox, but we’re going for a modern slant with this list. So without any further ado, let’s see where The Lego Movie fits in with its contemporaries.

Colorful, Chaotic And Chock-Full Of Pop Culture, "The LEGO Movie" Hits Theaters Today

Will Arnett Elizabeth Banks Alison Brie

The Lego Movie doesn’t sound like something that could possibly be good and yet, here it is, defying all expectations and being actually great entertainment. Set up as a dizzying mashup of story and pop culture references (the way most kids actually play with their toys,) this supposedly kids movie is clearly geared equally (if not more) towards adults – not in the “wink wink nudge nudge” way that most kids movies have of peppering the script with the occasional gag for adults, but as a full-fledged, interesting story for grownups that’s bound to keep most kids happy as well.

Lego Gathering Still
To all those who expected this to be terrible: it isn't.

The Lego Movie is set in a dystopian universe run by the evil President Business. Everyone follows a detailed set of instructions on how to live their lives, they buy ridiculously overpriced coffee. The top song in the charts is called Everything Is Awesome, which should tell you hot terrible this world really is. We follow Emmett Brickowski (get it?) a construction worker, who, despite being completely happy with the whole government arrangement, gets dragged into a rebellion plot and put at the head of the Master Buildres’ uprising. There’s a prophecy, you see, and it says he has to do it.

The Lego Movie Set For Release Later This Week

Chris Pratt Will Ferrell Will Arnett Morgan Freeman Liam Neeson Channing Tatum Elizabeth Banks

Danish company The Lego Group have partnered up with Warner Brothers for the first feature length Lego film, The Lego Movie, set to hit the big screen in 2014.

A child's imagination is what made Lego blocks what they were. They could make a spaceship, a Wild West shootout or even a pirate ship come to life; well, maybe for a few hours until the few remaining pieces left out were embedded in a parent's foot.  Now it has reached a safer place for adults as the loveable figures make their way from the toy box onto the big-screen in 3D animation comes Warner Brothers production:  'The Lego Movie'. With a highly admirable voiceover cast of Will Arnett, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Channing Tatum and Elizabeth Banks, the film looks ready to be a 2014 BLOCK-buster sensation.

'The Lego Movie' Blows Critics Away With Hilarious, Far From Plastic, 3D Adventure [Trailer + Pictures]

Chris Pratt Morgan Freeman Will Ferrell Will Arnett Elizabeth Banks

The wide release of The Lego Movie is now only days away and as reviews filter through, reasons to watch this brand new, animated adventure stack up like the iconic, colourful building blocks. It seems that something in the movie's playful attitude and inventiveness has worked to bring out the inner child of even the most cynical critics and it's practically unanimous: The Lego Movie is a winner.

Lego Movie Vitruvius Speech
Critics Are Falling Head-Over-Heels For 'The Lego Movie.'

The movie stars Chris Pratt as Emmet, an average little Lego guy with a sunny outlook on life who is mistaken for the amazing Master Builder by the bearded sage Vitruvius (Morgan Freeman) and is enlisted on a mission to save the Lego world from being destroyed by Lord Business, the evil tyrant voiced by Will Ferrell. Emmet's unpreparedness yet nervous willingness to take on the heavy mantle of hero makes for some hilariously hapless scenes that will coax giggles out of those who thought their childhood was long gone.

Netflix Introduces Multiple Viewer Profiles

Netflix has introduced their new viewer profile feature. The multi profiles (up to five per account) will allow individual viewers their own viewing area which will ensure they are receiving appropriate recommendations.

The tool was introduced in the US on Thursday so the internet provider would better be able to understand their audiences' viewing habits and needs. For instance a child of 6 may enjoy watching a show such as Peppa Pig whereas the 30+ adults of the household may prefer horror films. There's a distinct difference between the sorts of recommendations Netflix would provide for the two very different audiences. This latest application is intended to solve this problem.

Netflix At The Emmys? Networks Welcome The Change

Jason Bateman Will Arnett Kevin Spacey

Beware the media revolution – specifically, Netflix shows at the Emmys. Four years after Dr. Horrible (Neil Patrick Harris) predicted the death of traditional media, online shows – that is, programming specifically produced for online distribution – might, for the first time, upstage traditional broadcasts. The contenders are the obvious ones – Arrested Development and House of Cards. The shows are leading contenders for the Best Actor and Best Program nominations – categories, which have up until now been the exclusive domain of broadcast and cable networks.

Jason Bateman, Apple Store SoHo
Are online shows the way of the future?

Regardless of whether the two shows have any chance of winning - which, given their critical and audience reception, seems likely – the mere fact that the two are being considered shows a shift in the paradigm, so to speak. However, it might be that Netflix specifically, and not online content in general, is moving into the mainstream.

So Yeah, There's A LEGO Movie. And Here's The Trailer.

Chris Pratt Will Ferrell Elizabeth Banks Liam Neeson Will Arnett Morgan Freeman Nick Offerman

Warner Brothers have released the first trailer for The LEGO Movie, set to hit theaters on February 7, 2014. The original 3D computer animated story follows the story of Emmet, a clean-cut LEGO mini-figure who is mistakenly identified as being the key to saving the world. Emmet (voiced by Chris Pratt) is drafted into a fellowship of strangers to stop an evil tyrant President Business (Will Ferrell) and his henchman Bad Cop (Liam Neeson) from achieving world domination. Does this have anti-capitalist undertones!?

Of course, Emmet is hilariously underprepared for such an adventure and calls upon his fellow travellers Vitruvius (Morgan Freeman), an old mystic (Elizabeth Banks) Batman (Will Arnett), and a swaggering pirate (Nick Offerman) for help.

It all looks pretty good fun and kids and families should have a whale of a time with this one. Warner executives are probably seeing dollars signs, and plenty of them.

Arrested Development Creator As Suprised As Fans By The Show's Return

Will Arnett Jason Bateman Michael Cera Portia De Rossi

Hurrah, Arrested Development returns this Sunday. Fans of the original series could not be more excited, while everyone else is just kind of looking around being really confused. The Emmy-award winning show will come back with 15 brand new episodes, to Netflix of all places and in a lot of ways, it will be pretty similar to the Arrested Development we know and love – it will be divided into roughly half-hour episodes, with the entire main cast reprising their roles - Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Jeffrey Tambor, Michael Cera, Alia Shawkat, Jessica Walter and Portia De Rossi.

Jason Bateman, Meet The Filmmakers Panel Discussion
Jason Bateman returns as Michael Bluth this Sunday.

But creator Mitch Hurwitz warns viewers not to expect a perfect replica of the earlier seasons. Besides the obvious changes, necessitated by the fact that this season comes seven years later, the story will be structured slightly differently. Instead of all the characters appearing most of the time, like we’ve been used to, every episode from season four will be centered around a single character, with the rest of the Bluth family making only occasional appearances. Longtime fans, however, will be rewarded for their dedication, with story arcs that continue over several episodes. Much like his audience, Hurwitz himself could not be more excited by the show’s return. Or more surprised.
