Actress Whoopi Goldberg has been caught up in a bizarre $5 million (£3.1 million) lawsuit filed by a man who claims to have been let down by a charity she supports.

In the legal papers, Wajid Al-Qadaffi accuses officials at Services for the UnderServed of wrecking his chances of securing a job after he turned to them for help during a period of depression.

The organisation helps struggling New Yorkers get back on their feet and into employment, but Al-Qadaffi claims charity workers purposefully failed to land him any interviews.

Goldberg has been targeted in the lawsuit because she is a benefactor of the charity, and appears on the back page of its brochure, according to
