Whoopi Goldberg is celebrating after raising enough money through public donations to fund her upcoming documentary film about pioneering comedienne Moms Mabley.
The Ghost star has been working on her directorial debut, I Got Somethin' To Tell You, for the past few months, but she turned to fans in June (12) after finding she was $65,000 (£40,625) short in funds to complete the project to her satisfaction.
She launched a campaign on Kickstarter.com to help pull in the balance and within four weeks of the fundraising page going live, Goldberg had smashed her goal, attracting more than $73,000 (£45,625) in donations.
Taking to her Twitter.com blog on Thursday (26Jul12), shortly before the campaign's deadline, the Oscar winner revealed the extra cash will allow her to licence film clips of Mabley in action for use in her documentary.
She wrote, "My dear Tweeties!! We made it on Kickstarter!! You and My Face Book friends Made It Happen!!! U have made it possible to clear moms clips... I now can clear Moms on so many of the appearances she made on different shows, and enables us go So Much further!! THANK YOU SO Much!!"
Goldberg offered up a variety of rewards including signed photos, personalised thank you cards and a mention in the Dvd credits to those who helped the actress reach her goal.
The film is expected to be released in December (12).
