A musical version of Whoopi Goldberg's hit film The Color Purple is set to
arrive in Broadway in 2005.
Producers on New York's theatre district have secured the rights to both
Alice Walker's novel and Steven Spielberg's 1985 film adaptation, which also
featured Danny Glover and Oprah Winfrey.
The production will first go through a trial run in America's regional
theatre next autumn (04) before hitting the bright lights of the Big Apple.
SCOTT SANDERS of CREATIVE BATTERY, the team behind the production, says,
"We have watched the film several times and may very well borrow from Steven's
instincts about how to stage the novel."
