The performance was set to air on 'The Voice's' season 10 finale later this month.
The estate of Whitney Houston has cancelled a planned duet between Christina Aguilera and a hologram of the late singer. Footage of the duet briefly leaked online on Thursday (May 19th) but the performance, which was set for ‘The Voice’s’ season 10 finale next week, has now been axed after Houston’s estate decided the hologram was ‘not ready to air’.
Christina Aguilera will not duet with the Whitney Houston hologram on ‘The Voice’ finale.
In a statement given to Entertainment Tonight, Pat Houston, the executor of the estate, said: “We are so appreciative of the opportunity for the Whitney Houston hologram to appear on NBC’s ‘The Voice’ with a talent pairing as extraordinary as Christina Aguilera and Whitney Houston.”
“We were looking to deliver a ground breaking duet performance for the fans of both artists. Holograms are new technology that take time to perfect, and we believe with artists of this iconic caliber, it must be perfect. Whitney’s legacy and her devoted fans deserve perfection.”
In the leaked footage Houston and Aguilera performed a medley of the late singer’s hits, including ‘I'm Every Woman’ and ‘I Have Nothing’. “After closely viewing the performance, we decided the hologram was not ready to air,” Pat Houston continued.
”We have much respect and appreciation for Christina, and she was absolutely flawless.” After debuting on ‘The Voice’ the hologram was reportedly then set to perform its own headlining show later this year.
News of the Whitney hologram was first made public in September 2015, with Pat Houston announcing: "It's a great opportunity for her fans to see a reinvention of one the most celebrated female artists in history and to continue a legacy of performances that will not be forgotten in years to come.”
