THE White Stripes' insistence on only wearing red and white clothes is down to drummer Meg White's love of peppermints.

The SEVEN NATION ARMY sibling duo nearly named themselves after Meg's favourite confectionery, but decided the sweet's colour scheme would be a powerful look to adopt - as it would make them stick in people's memories.

Guitarist Jack White explains, "Meg loves peppermints and we were going to call ourselves The Peppermints. But since our last name was White, we decided on The White Stripes.

"It revolved around this childish idea, and we thought it a good stage aesthetic to dress in the colours of the peppermint, so people would think like kids when they saw us, or at least remember who we were."
