British rockers the White Lies planned to make a horror movie in the style of Paranormal Activity while they were recording their latest album, but the idea was rejected by bosses at their record label.

The musicians concocted a plan to fake a haunting during the recording of their new disc, Big Tv, and record it in a documentary style in the manner of the popular 2007 poltergeist thriller.

However, they had to scrap the idea when they were ordered not to pursue the project.

Bassist Charles Cave tells NME magazine, "We actually gave some genuine thought to making a documentary in the studio where we mock up a Paranormal Activity-style haunting. Lie... 'Recording's going really well, but I was really freaked out last night...' and slowly introducing ghosts into the studio. It would have been so good, but the label didn't approve it."
