‘Hustlers’, known in the USA as ‘Pawn Shop Chronicles’, has a brand new trailer featuring the late Paul Walker. The film draws together three plotlines - including meth addicted white supremacists, a man looking for his kidnapped wife, and an Elvis impersonator - centred on one place: the pawn shop; the epicentre for the poor trying to catch a break, and the focus of many a ridiculous situation.

And ridiculous situations are ample in the short peek we get in this new trailer. Walker himself seems to have adopted a ‘trailer trash’ character, bemoaning his partner in crime for swapping their shotgun for money to buy fuel. Where did that shop take place? You guessed it. “Man, how the hell we gonna rob Stanley without a shotgun?” a dishevelled Walker asks. Matt Dillon, Elijah Wood, Brendan Fraser and Norman Reedus (of Walking Dead fame) also star.

The film’s release hasn’t taken a usual trajectory. Out in July 2013 on a limited basis in the U.S, it premiered on DVD in Sweden on November 6. Russia and Japan then saw it in January this year, while U.K audiences can buy it right now on DVD and blu-ray.

Unfortunately, despite a promising plotline and intriguing premise, not to mention the hugely respected Wayne Kramer, director of The Cooler, Running Scared and Crossing Over, ‘Hustlers’ or ‘Pawn Shop Chronicles’ has been received badly by the critics, putting up a score of only 12% on Rotten Tomatoes

“A fine cast is wasted in this lurid, grindhouse-style effort that strains for both laughs and shocks,” writes The Hollywood Reporter’s Frank Scheck. “These stories collectively amount to little more than a portrait of rural life as a redneck nightmare wherein people are very stupid or very evil,” notes Andwer Schenker of The New York Times.

Fans of Paul Walker who want to see the late actor – who tragically died in a car accident in November last year – might want to check this out.
