Waka Flocka Flame is not the internet’s favourite person at the moment. The 29-year-old rapper caused controversy with his recent remarks about Caitlyn Jenner during a radio interview on Friday (18th September). He has been accused of being transphobic by a number of social media users.

Waka, whose real name is Juaquin James Malphurs, appeared on Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club. During the interview, Waka discussed the transgender community and Caitlyn Jenner.

“Women are afraid to be a wife and young males are afraid to be men,” Waka said of the transgender community. “It’s not cool, they’re not marketing that. They don’t market families and husbands and wives no more. They’re marketing young girls, transgenders, they’re marketing evil, man. Evil is marketed. I ain't got nothing against anybody’s preferences, but putting it on TV, that’s crazy, man.”

Next Waka turned his attention to Caitlyn Jenner. He claimed to have “nothing against” Jenner but continued to claim she was “rebuking God”.

“I ain't saying nothing against like a Bruce Jenner, you follow me, you are who you are when God made you, not who you became after he did,” Waka said of Jenner. “That’s how I just feel. You rebuking God. God ain't put those feelings in you, that’s the devil playing tricks on your mind. That’s a test from God.”

Many social media users immediately condemned Waka’s comments. Waka responded to the criticism on Twitter. He appeared to be surprised his comments had caused offensive, further stating he had “nothing against” the transgender or gay communities but that he simply doesn’t “agree” with Jenner.

Waka claimed his main issue with Jenner and other members of the trans community was their presence on television. He implied the way in which the media – and people around the world – had accepted Caitlyn would somehow corrupt children.

‘I have nothing against transgender people. I simply feel we need to be careful what our children see as "sensationalized”,’ Waka wrote in one tweet.

‘Children's brains are a constant development to adulthood. And they pay attention to everything whether we want to accept it or not,’ he continued.

After the backlash continued, he apologised for using the word “evil” in his discussion of the transgender community but stated that he was still standing his ground.
