Viola Davis recently revealed a contemporary new look on the cover of LA Times Magazine and the star of The Help may well be headed for good fortune at this year's Academy Awards, with the weight of the bookie's opinion having shifted in her favor.
In a classy fashion shoot for Los Angeles Times, Viola may need to brace herself for criticism after posing in a $1,700 fox fur 'poncho' from Costume National, amongst other monochrome designer outfits. But aside from a potential lynching from animal rights activists, Viola Davis' star seems to be firmly on the ascendant. And following her triumph at the Screen Actors' Guild Awards, it would appear that she has nudged Meryl Streep off the top spot to become the favourite to win the Best Actress gong at the forthcoming Academy Awards. On January 31, 2012, betting-directory.com surmised that Viola has experienced a change of fortune in the betting stakes. She has been nominated for the award, for her portrayal of Aibileen Clark in the civil rights drama.
She faces strong competition, though, from Meryl Streep, who has already taken home a Golden Globe this awards season, for her performance as Margaret Thatcher in Iron lady. Rooney Mara is also in the running for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo as is Michelle Williams for performance in My Week With Marilyn and Glenn Close's cross-dressing turn in Albert Nobbs.
