Henrik Vanger has always thought the disappearance of his niece Harriet was dubious, 40 years later Henrik hires journalist Mikael Blomqvist to really find out what happened to Harriet. Henrik's investigation plot must remain a secret so he gives Mikael a cover, officially Mikael's role is to document a history of the esteemed Vanger family who live on a secluded Island off the mainland of Sweden.

As a tangled web of clues unravels Mikael finds himself receiving help from a mysterious biker girl named Lisbeth. The writer and biker make an unlikely pairing but as the plot thickens the duo must work together to uncover a sinister past.
